Purchase of Micro Mini Scooter

I have been researching kids scooters.

The scooter has to last 2 young boys; 3 years old (and will likely be handed down to younger brother) so will need to withstand a fair amount of being bashed around.

I am leaning towards buying the Micro Scooter (Mini or Mini Deluxe - a new model) mainly because of the build quality, good reviews and the fact you can buy spare parts as they wear out.

Whilst you can buy a $20 Kmart job, in reality these just end up as landfill. At least the Micro Scooter can be onsold via gumtree or whatever, and refurbished and reused.

Apart from price, I cannot see any negatives to buying this scooter.

I considered buying second hand myself and refurbishing but I never see anyone local selling them, and if you buy interstate the shipping pushes the price up to almost a new price.

Shopping around, it looks like I can buy the Micro Mini from David Jones (DJ) for $139 (free delivery over $100), but I think I should wait for a sale. I have seen older posts where DJ has discounted all toys by 20% (bringing the price to $111.20 delivered). Does anyone know when DJ usually has this sale?

Does anyone have any experience with this scooter as your feedback would be appreciated, or can point out a better deal? I need pick up or delivery to TAS.

For example, is this the same scooter, rebranded? https://littlenation.com.au/product-category/mini-scooters/

Incidentally, what does everyone think of the new model - the Mini Deluxe - worth the extra $??

Do you think I would be better off buying a Micro Maxi (approx $159 with 20% off)?

Thank you in advance.

if kmart sells them for $20 then buy one of those. even if your kids get 2 years out of it. then throw it out and then buy another.

if you pay $139 then how much could you resell it for in the future? $80?? if so then it's cost you $60. you can buy 3 kmart ones for that price.

resale may be tricky, as in, will people want them in the future?.

e.g. nowadays you can pick up aluminium scooters for less than $10 at garage sales.

    • Thanks. Don't like filling up landfill so much. But see your point on cost vs use.

  • Both my kids (now 5yrs & 7 yrs old) have had thenmini micro scooter for almost 4 years now and theyblove them. It's definitely getting small for the 7 year old to ride. It's not meant for someone his age but he still uses it.
I liked the fact that it can be easily (by an adult) be taken apart. My plan was he could scooter to school and then I could unassemble the scooter ( takes seconds) and put it in my backpack or bike basket and cycle on to work. Unfortunatly it was too far for him to scooter and we rarely have so little room in the car that this option is needed. Its also great for buying spare parts off the website if needed.
I have no experience of the deluxe version.
If you buy from their website you get a 10% off voucher for family and friends for purchases in the next week/few weeks (at least that was the case a few years ago). I'm not sure how the prices directly from the company are compared to in shops.

    • The deluxe one features an adjustable handlebar. Doesn't sound like it's something I should be too worried about. I'll look into that 10% off. 4+ years of use sounds pretty good. I reckon we'll all have mountain bikes at some stage before it gets too small. Thanks.

not sure where you are located, but I purchased from here http://www.scooterhut.com.au/mini-micro-scooter/ the last time DJ's had the Mini Micro on sale.. they ended up beating DJ price by $12.

    • Thanks for the tip… no stores in Tas though… :(

      • but that being said, we got a hand me down from my nephew his kmart scooter, and our kid hated it. After a friend bought her kid a mini micro, we bought our 2 (now 3) year old one and she loves it. Took her a few tries to get the hang of it but now its got a permanent place in our car and we just take it out whever

        • definitely steer away from the cheapies I think… not a bargain if a kid won't like it!

  • My kids enjoy the Mini Micro Scooter. However the plastic is NOT durable, especially in sunny conditions. Our scooter has totally cracked through in multiple places. Not very good considering the price you pay.

  • So I ended up going for both quality and quantity :-)

I got the Micro Mini and Maxi both 25% off in David Jones recent sale, including free delivery.

I purchased them using a 10% off egiftcard voucher and will get 6% back from cashrewards, all in all not a bad saving off RRP price.

    Cheers everyone.
