Lowest price ever on Amazon US for this 3D DLP short throw projector with high contrast, brightness and low refresh rates (for a projector) which make it good for playing games on. Those attributes also make it a good choice for movies and TV as well.

$1369 on Staticice AU.

If you can figure out a way to forward it from Mexico for less than $350 it can be had for on Amazon MX for $531 AUD (using heidoc exchange rate). May be a pricing error but it has been that price for a few weeks now. I might try Parcl to do this if I do buy one of these this way.

    Worth noting, replacement lamp, ~AUD$300

True, but "Bulb Life (eco-mode) : 6,500 hours"

Assuming you use it 20 hours a week, that means it would last 6.25 years.

And you can get replacement bulbs or modules for less than $300.

in 6 years you would probably replace with a 8K projector or something

      • Except that brightness will decrease over the lamp lifetime so, depending on image size, you may not be able to keep using "eco-mode" for all of those hours you quoted.

"..and low refresh rates (for a projector) which make it good for playing games on." - that statement would be the other way around.
Low refresh is bad, but this projector can do 144hz, which is great for games.

I think he meant 'low input lag' instead, which this does have with 14 msec latency (as it says in the details anyway)

      • Yeah that'd make more sense!

pretty risky IMO. just buy a TV from a deal here. i have a projector, and it's a bit of a PITA to use, so I don't use it so often

    • I'm not much of a gamer but I've never really understood the want to use a projector for this purpose. A projector needs a dark, dark dedicated room to be effective, it never seemed like a good circumstance to play games to me.

      • well, if you did have a dark room, and a projector suitable for gaming, it would be pretty awesome for console gaming.

      • I used to have a movie room and wound up moving the PC/consoles in there for gaming. Need a dark place (I lived in northern Canada so there was only 6 hours of light a day in the middle of winter, plus it was in a basement), but it was a million times better than gaming on a TV.

But I took the effort to ceiling mount it and connecting the PC/consoles to a receiver so the projector only ever had a single HDMI cable running to it. Definitely was a PITA when the bulb blew but Epson wound up replacing it even though it was out of warranty (because it only lasted 2000 hours).

For anyone considering ceiling mount, you can get almost the same effect by putting a set of shelves behind your chair/lounge, and putting the projector (and signal source) on a shelf that is 20-30cm above the top of your head when seated.

          Advantages:

          • less keystone correction required
          • don't need a long hdmi cable
          • ideal if renting

          Disadvantages:

          • the power cord could pull the whole arrangement off the shelf. I recommend you use p-clips to hold power cords in place, and any other cords e.g. speaker cables. Screw the p-clips to the shelves.
          • shelves may tip over if you have them in the middle of the room. Beware if your chair reclines!
          • as the signal source is behind you, you may need to aim the remote at it, which is a little awkward. IR repeaters can help.
          • can be blinding when you walk in front of the projector, particularly if you can walk between the shelves and the chair/lounge. Can be fixed by having 2m-tall shelves and putting the projector on top. Could also use a wardrobe.
      • To be honest many of them don't need THAT dark of a room… I've got mine set up in the living room of my apartment and even with the blinds slightly open during the day I still get quite a good picture… of course the moment it becomes night AND I close the blinds all systems are a GO!

Op, the ones from Mexico you're referring to are from New Sellers who don't have any transaction history… I wouldn't be touching them with a 10 foot pole, lol

    • Good point :)

  • Do these have to be short throw mounted? I'd prefer it to be ceiling mounted at the back of the room.

    • yeah the thing that turned me off this model was the lack of adjustable zoom. Such a shame :(

  • FWIW, I've narrowed my projector selection down to the Benq HT2050 or the Epson 2040 - http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-theater-projectors-under-$1000.htm

  • This is a good price but coming from the US would it still work in OZ since US electrical items run on a different voltage and also have a different power plugs than us?
