Woolworths/Coles Incentive to Buy over $100 This Weekend/Shopping Week

Did you take advantage of Woolworths' or Coles' incentive to buy over $100 this week? We did, even though it's normally very hard for us to get anywhere near that amount and we also did a fair bit of shopping with incentives the previous weeks.

Boy was my local Coles busy, and the trollies were much fuller than normal. They also had some additional specials ($5 roast chicken yesterday, cheap salmon and prawns just for the weekend) to help us get to the mark.

Should the majors do this more often, on top of their existing incentives?

I very rarely go over $100 at either store, but this week I spent over $100 at Coles. I combined the general offer with multiple targeted offers and ended up with 4000 points after adding up all the promotional points. I also used an egiftcard which I had purchased at 5% discount.

I didn't have any targeted offers with Woolworths this week so didn't use them at all for any of my shopping.

Leaving out Woolworths this week made it easier to reach the $100 target. The half price specials at Coles just happened to be on products we often buy so this made the target easy to reach as well.

The points have already been credited and I've converted them to flybuys dollars to use on my next purchase.

So Colesworths marketing has caused you to spend much more than you do normally at Colesworths.

Congratulations on losing the battle for your money to Colesworths.

Nope, I brought forward some of my purchases to get to the target. Not only does it save me $, but also time as I don't have to shop as often.

All these offers are targeted at large families. Bad luck if you live alone. I wish they'd offer half as much back for half the purchase. Recently they offered a reward for spending $60 a week for 4 weeks. I was lucky to spend that much in the first week and didn't need to do a major shop for the rest of the offer. Same with qualifying for free home delivery, unless you are having a dinner party over Christmas, there is no way you'd ever spend that much. It discriminates against bachelors and spinsters.

    • Just stock up on toilet paper for the next year.

But if any dates see your TP stash, you may stay a bachelor.

      • Did that, but $10 buys a lot of TP, at least 36 rolls. Buy 2 bulk packs and you have a storage problem. There's only so much TP and paper towels that you can buy and if you get them on the first shop there's nothing much left to get in the bulk supplies department. Already stocked up on flour/rice/washing powder etc.

no because I get better offers regularly.

  • I did spend $200 but unfortunately on the 20% Google Play Gift Card discount advertised this week, which means… no 2000 flybuys points earned.

Woolies current 10% off for $50+ spend is better. Works in Brisbane…

  • No Aldi this week. I got to say its a very smart strategy as my wife had no issue getting past 100 at both coles and woolies

I never spend $100 so this one didn't help me. However, got a Woolworths offer this morning spend $40 each week over 4 weeks and get 6000 points ($30). That's effectively 18.75%.

I got 3 emails reminding me to take up $15 off $100 offer. No way I can spend that much. So I'll just ignore them until they offer me something like $4 off $20 again.

    • I was getting sick of all the reminder emails from Coles for the 2000 points in Victoria. They kept coming even after I made the transaction.
