AirBnb Hosts: Do You Change the Bedsheets after Each Guest Checks Out?

Inside Edition just released a not-so-surprising exposé revealing how 3 out of 9 hotels sampled by them did not change sheets after a previous guest had checked out. (THE HORROR!)

Since AirBnb has became really popular in the past couple of years, I thought I would ask Ozb AirBnb hosts the same question.

If you are not an AirBnb host, how do you ensure that the sheets in your hotel room are clean?

Do you take any steps to put yourself at ease, e.g. specifically requesting a change of sheets in your presence/bringing your own sheets?

Answer away!

No, but only if they are not stained or dirty

If you seriously want the "truth" dont judge the answers before asking.

You may want to brush up on your market research class training

So when I stay in hotels and see the staff stripping and replacing sheets when they service a room they are actually putting the same sheets back on? Extraordinary!
Or perhaps the American TV show in the original link isn't the most reliable group to conduct research?

are you sure they are sampling just hotels ? and not motels as well ?
i expect the stats can be greatly influenced by the very very cheap end of the market , especially the hourly ones.

There is actual legislation in place that requires hotels to change sheets between guests. Failure to do so results in substantial fines.

As for airbnb, that's a different story. There is no rwgulatory body. However I'd assume that an airbnb wouldn't take the risk. One review of "dirty sheets not changed" could potentually destroy a hosts chance of future business.

With social media, review sites and booking sites, it would have to be a very brave hotel to not change sheets or a very lazy employee.

Such courage to not change the sheets! Truly heroic members of society.

  • So a news service (an industry widely known for making things up and reprinting anything that brings eyes to ads without any fact checking) decides to do an "expose" on how many hotels didn't change their sheets and then presents it whilst vaguely hinting how scientific their "study" was.

Rest of news world reprints it without checking anything at all, naive people act as though it's not just made up tat, make forum posts about it etc

  • as someone that has used AirBNB multiple times, I freaking hope so!

  • We bring our own bedsheets for airbnb tbh..
    Two flatsheets.
