Square Payment Is Now Offering Contactless Method of Payment

Hi all,

As appeared in the media, Mobile Payment Square now offers Contactless payment device.

The bad news is, the price is now AUD$59 (AUD$19 for the first generation magnetic stripe and chip only) and if you fancy the dock (which I must admit, looks very nice), then another AUD$34 and that dock doesn't come with wall plug! However, it comes with the backup first generation magnetic stripe and chip only device as a backup.

Commission is 1.9% and accepts AMEX/Visa/MC plus SamsungPay/AndroidPay/ApplePay. With the advent of September 2016 ban on excessive CC charge, I wonder if 1.9% is too high as the average is only 1.33%.

The question is, historically (at least in Ozb history), have they ever discounted this device?

  Why do you need one? That should answer the question if you need to wait to see if it gets discounted or not.

  You don't need a terminal to support that. All contactless ones do.

    I am not in a hurry for this. I have the Paypal Here equivalent but not the contactless. I got it when Officeworks cleared them all at super bargain price.

    But this is interesting, that's why I am interested to hear Ozbs (especially business owners) point of view on this.
