Wheel nuts Key for Alloy rims

Hi All

So I bought this car second hand last year and the seller did not give me they key to undo the tyres. I took the car for a service at the Honda dealership and they guy said he couldn't rotate the tyres as he didn't have they key and was implying that you will have to have this custom made and probably won't be able buy this off the shelf.

I am pretty noob with the cars, don't even what this tool is actually called. So If you could please let me know what this tool is called and where would I be able buy it off the shelf and if any one can guess the number or exact measurements that would be great.

this is the picture of rim : http://imgur.com/a/h4v3b

Many thanks

It's a 'key' for the lock nuts on the wheels themselves. I believe places like supercheap sell some similar ones, but you'd need to get the person there to check yours out

    • yeah thanks , I will drive to my nearest supercheap to see if they do have them but if they are easily found I wonder why didn't the Honda dealship had them.

      • They're not Honda rims, hence the Speedy Wheels' centre caps…

        • Thank you , I found out the name of the manufacturer from your comment :). They are selling keys on their site just waiting for their reply to tell me which one would fit.

        • oh actually they aren't speedywheels rims, I heard back from them and they are saying k-speed is not them and to try ozzytyres.

        • @Frankenbeanie:

Sorry should've taken more than a split second look!

  • Its a allen key. Should be easily available including Bunnings or Masters

    • not the allen keys , I am after the ones to undo the tyres, I think they are called lug nuts .

      • Ah, I see.. sorry

        • no probs, I think I know the name now, its called the lug nut wrench :)

    • good solution but not very practical. will require 4 sockets to undo 4 nuts and then also require a vice to remove the nuts from the sockets.

I would really like to get myself a key.

      • Contact manufacturer of wheels and provide image to see if they are what is supplied with the wheel? Also think about going to a tyre place as they sell stuff like this, and would be more knowledgeable than staff at supercheap, imo!

        • I have already , I sent them the picture asking them to advise which one to buy from their site. Once they reply back I can then use their answer to buy a more generic cheaper version if available.

        • below is the reply from SpeedyWheels, I thought mine were speedywheels, now I have to email Ozzy tyres .lol

          Thanks for your email.

K-Speed is not one of our brands. I think it was distributed by Ozzy Tyres so perhaps try them.

It's difficult to identify the locks just based on looks however our do have some numbers embossed on the side of the lock which should be visible. If you let me know these numbers I'll be able to determine whether they're our locks."

        • @Frankenbeanie: Usually there is a number on a lock nut somewhere to allow you to purchase another key, but finding the actual manufacturer of the lock nut might be difficult.

The lock nuts are all slightly different to make them more difficult to steal (like the keys to your house).

I bought an old car that came with three different sets of lock nuts on the wheels, I had the three keys, but ditched two of them as it wasn't fun trying to work out which key went in which nut. Even with the right key it was often a case of trying to fit it, rotate a little, try again, rotate again etc.

  • That's a lot of lock nuts! Usually it's only 1 per rim. This guy has spent a fair bit to protect his rims. Lol

I had similar on an old car, just the one set but the set was for every nut, rather than just the 1 per rim. Tyre shop did it

Have you looked in the toolbag, jack area, spare wheel well, it may be rolling around in there somewhere?

Thank you all for your helpful comments :)

I found they key in the boot under the spare tyre.
