Vodafone Has Sent Me 6 Spam SMS Messages This Month

Vodafone continues to bombard my phone with illegal SMS spam with the 6th message this month arriving today so they may outdo themselves and get to 7 - almost two per week.

When are they going to actually jail someone that's "respectable" in Australia for this? Some of Australia's largest businesses routinely send SMS spam to me so it seems SMS spam is not the domain of criminals it's the domain of respectability in Australia. Fines, if they are even being levied, aren't stopping the behavior.

Do you send every unwanted SMS message you recieve that is illegal because it does not contain a link to an unsubscribe function to ACMA? Just forward the SMS to 0429 999 888.

Had to laugh at that, because it has happened to me as well.

This post seems very dramatic. What do the texts say? Do they tell you how to unsubscibe? What did Vodafone say when you spoke to them about it?

  • Prepaid in some countries you get daily texts, if not even more frequent. No idea what the heck they say it's all in their language, just random promos and stuff, I stopped translating after the first few times realising they weren't important. Definitely annoying.

6 spam messages in a month! Wow, must be hard for you to ignore. Seriously, how hard is it to "Mark as Read" or simply delete? How long would that take? Definitely shorter than the time for you to write this post.

  • Even a new starter kit can get spam texts and calls. I used to get insurance sales critters and even once a Reachtel phone survey on my spare SIM. But as it's a long expiry plan, that SIM is usually off. So after many failures at their expense to get anything but my voicemail, which I never bother to check since none of my friends have that number, they stopped.

For another SIM there were texts from what seemed to a money transfer service, no way of knowing of it was due to a previous owner of the number, or spam. Anyway that SIM expired after 10 days of use so good luck to them, hahaha.

I'm just interested in who OP thinks is "respectable" enough within the company that they would jail. Is it just the big boss? Or the whole of Vodafone due to criminal type "association"? The mind boggles…
