Why did they presumedly spend a big chunk of change on backwards compatibility just so they could stop selling it?

It's pretty hard running a PC console game on a PC console.
not as easy as you write it. 360 and one is titally different
All hail the digital "future". For console gaming I'll be sticking with retail copies and the ability to purchase second hand physical games for the remainder of my gaming days.
Whilst I can understand why an older title might be discontinued at some point, 4 years seems awfully young for a popular title to be pushed to EOL…
I'm not sure if there are any precedents for this???
Its because the license on cars expired. I dont see it as such a big deal. You can buy a copy for $5 at EB. They already killed Forza 4 and 5 probably isnt far away.
Thanks Tony, I was wondering what was going on…good to know the situation.
I agree, it's no biggie for me either, I got the GwG edition! ;)
That's what kinda inspired this thread in the first place, they spent a tonne of money on backwards compatibility, then gave away god knows how many copies for free and then pulled it from sale.
@jonathonsunshine: I wonder if MS contractually mandates GwG &/or BC participation from it's developers?
so people will buy the newer titles. EA do it all the time on android and ios
