Gaming PC GPU GTX 950 or GTX 1060 (Best Value)

Hi guys,

Making a gaming pc bought all other parts have an i5, just wondering what is better value for money for the GPU.
Is a GTX 1060 really needed? Or will a GTX 950 suffice for the next 2-3 years? Is it better if i invest in the 1060 now or wait for other GPU later on and stick with the 950?

Thanks

Honestly, I'd go for an RX 480 instead of either of those. But if you want to go for NVidia then the 1060. With 2GB of VRAM, the 950 isn't even going to suffice for a year, let alone 2-3.

  • The GTX 950 is definitely not going to last that long, and I'd wager that the GTX 960 might get old soon too.
The GTX 970 look like it should hold up, but it lacks memory.
So the GTX 980 is probably your best bet to look into…. that or something newer.

    AU$280 - GTX 980
    $290 - RX 480
    $350 - GTX 1060 (6GB AIB)
    $500 - GTX 1070
    $850 - GTX 1080

…and those are expected "deal" prices.
You will either see lack of availability, or higher prices…it's upto you to be vigilant in shaving off every dollar!!

Just make sure you have a decent CPU to match the GPU, and remove any bottlenecks.

  • The R9 380 4GB is $199 from MSY

It represents the best value card under the $200 dollar mark. It was $169 before but it is unlikely it will be promoted at that price again.

The GTX 950 is also $199, but it's weaker than the GTX 960 and also the R9 380.

If you want to get into DX12 games you might need to spend upwards of $350 and grab yourself an RX 480, starting from $349 for the most basic 4GB model.

  • Go for the GTX 1050 Ti.

  • Depending on what kind of performance you want and what kind of quality/resolution, go for 1050ti or 1060. I'm expecting that you should be able to get the 1050ti for around the $200 mark in a few weeks when the deals start rolling in
