Made by gun wine maker Bill Downie (tick) from premium Shiraz (tick) grown on the much touted, low yielding Yarra Valley (tick) Thousand Candles Vineyard (tick) and from an excellent vintage (tick).
We offered this wine a bit over a year ago at $20 (against a normal retail of $25) calling it ‘outstanding value’ then and had a great response. The extra year or so since then has also been very good for the wine. PLEASE NOTE, it is a long way from being a ‘typical’ big bold Aussie Shiraz but is very much in the new modern style – bright, fresh, crunchy, tasty and very moorish. There is a ‘tang’ on the finish that makes it hard to put the glass downand it works with so many foods. With Spring here and Summer on the way you could even give it a light chill to make it even more smashable. And an extra bonus, it is made with minimal sulphur which is so important for many people
So you ask, why is it so cheap? The simple answer is that there is a huge amount of money behind the whole Thousand Candles enterprise and along the way some a few projects won’t quite fit in with evolving plans and hard and fast decisions will be made. We were lucky that our contacts and experience had us in the right place at the right time to grab this opportunity.
