  • Is there an option to go touchscreen+8gb ram+ 256gb SSD?

  • I remember shipping express having a deal for a new and higher spec model for around $699 earlier in the year / last year?

These are also starting to look a bit outdated compared to thin bezel laptops like the new XPS 13 and the Lenovo Yoga.

The Asus Zenbook and Dell XPS 13 have a very wide gap between them in terms of price, don't they?

Go for the 8GB version if you can. RAM is soldered on the mobo and not SODIMM. SSD looks like M2 connector so you can upgrade that yourself with a bit of patience. However, looks like the specs are different between them too.. (M3 on the 8GB version vs M5 on the 4GB). M5 is higher performance obviously.

  • Not sure if many people will do this : "Got one of these for a friend" :)

    • down side of working in IT, friends often ask what they should get (they pay of course)

      • Oh the recommendations , yup it is useful for that

  • I've been watching this site, I'm sure they put up all the Zenbook prices btw 50-300 last month ish.

  • I bought one of these from them recently.

That one is UX305CA which is using the newer 6th gen Core M processor. Pretty solid laptop and great display. The only downside is that on 3200x1800 everything gets scaled weird in windows. Seems like it only plays well with native 1920x1080 laptops.

Btw Centralfield Technology ships out their items really quick. I got my notebook pretty much the next day and via a courier service.

Why so many REFURBISHED Asus, manufacturer problem?

The only downside is that on 3200x1800 everything gets scaled weird in windows.

Windows is very bad on that, unlike iPad no matter what resolution it will look the same size but sharper.

      • The scaling on windows side isn't a problem at all - it's the third party programs that aren't able to scale well. As well as the fact that that 3200x1800 screen makes everything looks ridiculously crisp.

    • Bought the exact same model about the same time as you I think. Honestly for the price I couldn't ask for me (especially the screen!). The display really is what makes this thing great.
I use mine pretty much solely for browsing and facebook - can i ask what browser you use? I tried using Edge but found that Chrome runs a lot smoother…

      • I did too try to use Edge because apparently its power saving but its just not feature ready for me the way Chrome does it (bookmarks sync etc) so Im sticking to Chrome for now.

Btw, I highly encourage you to manually update to Windows 10 anniversary update
        https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-up…
Apparently the windows update app will not detect the anniversary update. Since the update I got slightly longer battery life.

Also, the speakers are really soft with the default windows driver. I also highly recommend you download the audio driver. The volume became much louder after I installed the Asus drivers
