Archive HDD is not NAS HHD

    • Why can't you have this HDD connected to a network storage device? Can't see why not.

      • You can! Myself and many others are running them successfully in NAS RAID configs however they're not specifically designed for the task due to their slow write speeds etc.

        • But everyone uses NAS devices differently. Say if you wanted to download a movie at 2mbs per second then play it back later through your nrtwork, that's hardly stretching it.

        • Also, NAS and RAID are two different things.

        • @adam149: Ha, erm… I'm fully aware of that ;) I was just wanting to differentiate to clarify because I read your original question as if you were asking about using in a singular config, not RAIDed with others. I can only comment on their performance when using multiples of these drives in a RAID config. I don't think I'd be game to use a single 8TB HDD in a NAS.

I've purchased this for $280 in the past.

Yes, sorry Wayn. This isn't a fantastic price I'm afraid. I bought all mine earlier in the year for around $250 inc. Delivery. All still working perfectly in my Xpenology NAS too for those haters.

$250 is extremely cheap! I've got four of these in my HP microserver. It's noisy but it does the job.

      • Thanks for that, I wished I knew earlier. I did a a little digging prior, and coulndt find any 8TB lover than $350, hence I jumped on this.
Any feedback on the product ? Is it noisy ? Is it stable ? If it's bad i might consider returning it.

        • It's slightly noisy other than that it's value for money for the space it offers.

    • Yikes, sorry ! I thought it was a good deal. I couldnt find any cheaper rate for 8TB storage for some reason. T.T

Make sure you buy this hard drive from a reputable seller. I bought one, it had bad sectors, got it swapped to a new one under warranty, the new one had bad sectors, didn't want to risk it anymore and got my money back.

  • In before NAS argument

    • 6 hours too late pal.

        Damn I missed that

  • Considering this drive has been around the $250-270 range before, this isn't a great deal overall.

But maybe at the moment, this is the best price available… if you desperatelyneed a new 8TB drive right now!

    • I dint know this… T.T I wished I knew i could get it at $250….
Was that during special promotion ? When i did my research all retailed at $370+ that's why I jumped onto this..
