  • I still don't understand the pricing of the two, obviously the Vostro 3700 is a better catch, no?
Anyway, if anyone owns the Vostro 3700, would you please give some feedback on the product, would you recommend it? Ty.

    • From the looks of it, the Vostro 3700 is a much better buy.

      • shk1, I dont have the Vostro 3700. I have an Asus N61JQ. The Vostro 3700 has an Nvidia card where an Asus N61 has the 1Gb ATI card (the make shouldn't concern you unless you're a hardcore gamer. I was able to play Splinter Cell Conviction at highest settings without any problems).

        N61 has a 5400rpm 640gb drive, Vostro has a 500gb 7200 drive. Point Vostro (quality over quantity).
N61 has a 16" screen, 17" for Vostro. (Wins by size).

Battery life, I don't get much more than an hour 45 minutes. But most high-end laptops don't provide much more juice than that.

Vostro is a better laptop than the N61JQ for these points (only two advantages for N61 is that it has a BluRay drive and a USB 3.0 port - BluRay is an advantage and USB 3.0 is not yet widely used).

I bought the N61 during the DSE Easter Sale 2 months ago and my laptop is pretty awesome but I bought it for more than what the Vostro 3700 costs.

I'd highly recommend the Vostro 3700. Go for it.

  • The Vostro 3500 is not a bargain

I got one with the following:

    • Intel Core i5-520M (2.4GHz Dual core)
    • Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    • 4GB DDR3
    • 320GbGB HDD
    • 15.6 LED Display (1366x758)
    • GeForce 310M 512MB
    • 8X DVD +/- RW

    Total incl. GST $ 923.21

That was $300 cash off + 15% off Deal seems like they haven't really tried for a lower price so anyone who is keen seriously hold off Dell does some big cash off deals that can be used with 10-15% coupons

    • So would you say the Vostro 3700 is a good deal, or have you seen lower?

    • Sounds like a good deal, how did you get that?

  • When i purchased mien only the 13 and 15" had a decent savings. I personally do not think it's a great buy.

The markup on these models is very high so haggle the rep if your keen our account manager will give us 40% off at times on certain models so haggle abit it'll go a long way

  • the 8% off coupon doesn't work for me. but the deal is still sweet.

  • How's the battery life on these machines? How long do they last when fully charged? Ty.

  • scotty, I can see you are still looking for a laptop bargain. Good luck!

Vostro 3700 is interesting - specially with 17 inch screen with core i7 and GeForce GT. If you are flying overseas for holiday, you can get a GST refund.

    • Well personally I won't get a 3700 — way too heavy.

I am stuck :) I don't need a new laptop until maybe February next year now (got a laptop from work that can last until then I think). However the accountant kept on telling me that I need to get a new laptop and bring the expense forward to this financial year.

3 more weeks to go to make decisions :P Let's see what other deal turns up.

  • I am looking for a 17" laptop with Core i7 720

I've had a look at the HP offerings and they look a fair bit more expensive than $1359

I want a gaming capable machine though and not sure a GT 330M is that great?

    Any other suggestions?

    • far better than the 8600m GT that I am gaming on.

For the latest games you can push medium-high graphics depending on what game at what res.

  • The 8% coupon does not work in conjuction with this offer.

  • FYI EPP discount DOES NOT WORK WITH THE 20% discount

Cheekily it actually removes the 20% and replaces it with 3%…..

  • I'm very interested in the Vostro 3700. I have a question I'm hoping someone can help with, trying to get the price down further.

    Option 1:
I am self employed, first year business. I need a new notebook. I buy and claim back $___ next month on the tax return.

    Option 2:
Out of the goodness of my heart I buy the laptop for my child instead and get $375 back through the Education Tax Refund.

Which would be the better (lowest price) option? Do I just get the GST back or can I claim more on the business in next months tax return?

  • +1

Scotty and too all others if you want a better bargain in my mind here:

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx…

    Laptop:

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/RBIredirect.aspx?rb…

    E-Value Code
    FT520402AU

    Total $1199

Same spec as above except its only 4Gb of RAM and most likely 32Bit its a pre built machine so it ships fast you could configure the lower models for abit less aswell but you won't get the faster CPU (the coupon below works on the other models)

    Apply 8% Coupon PZP?H153TN8BS2

    Total $1,103.08

I personally think $250 saving is easily better than the RAM

Or build the lowest spec (already has $200 cash off stacks with the 8%) has 4Gb of ram already $100 for Win7 64Bit, and $62 for Geforce 310M

    Total $930ish

The second one in my mind is better slower CPU but honestly most people would hardly see a difference

I personally think those deals Dell emails you about are a rip off if you have a Dell account manager they will slash those prices with no hesitation so i doubt they are real bargains

    • Awesome, thanks for going to all that effort for us! Much appreciated

  • +1

Click it all depends on what tax bracket your currently in I personally think Option 2 would net the best savings, Option 1 may make no difference too your return depending on some aspects best too ask an accountant

    • Thanks for replying. Actually I'm on a very low tax bracket this financial year as I've been plagued with health problems and had to hand off a lot of work to others. I should speak to an accountant but yeah maybe option 2 is the way to go. And thanks to your post above it looks like my starting price would be that ~$930, much better. I'll see how I go.

  • Can anyone put me in touch with a Dell account manager??
