  • Be careful buying this set from Amazon UK. The employees there have a habit of gouging a big mark across the front of the outer artbox. It happened to the copies I ordered back in December, and according to some people on bluray.com it's still happening now.

    • thanks for the tip fatpizza!

    • I've never previously had that happen on any box set that i've ordered from Amazon UK.

      • That's because it's only been an issue on this X Files box set. :)
I order plenty of stuff from Amazon UK and this is the only set that had this issue, and I wasn't alone either.

        • It might have been some one at the factory making these X-Files box sets that did it. It wasn't necessarily Amazon UK which did it. I really don't think that Amazon UK had any thing to do with it as i've never had that happen to any box set bought from Amazon UK.

You you ought not to blame Amazon UK for some thing that they probably did not have any thing to do with.

        • @hollykryten:

Despite the fact that it was only box sets being shipped from Amazon UK that was having the issue? At the same time boxes were being shipped from Zavvi in pristine condition.
Based on what I've read due to the site of each box set each of these sets is shipped from the supplier to Amazon in its own outer box, rather than a bunch of them being shipped together. Whilst Zavvi apparently just shipped the item as they received it, Amazon UK removed each item from the outer box in order to ship it. Hence where the potential for damage comes from.

I love Amazon UK, I currently have 3 orders open from there. But in their handling of this set they screwed up, plain and simple. Not sure why you're so averse to the idea, but it's worth mentioning in case it save some individuals potential heartache.

        • Double Post…

        • @fatpizza:

Well any damage probably wasn't done on purpose.

        • @hollykryten: Well that's OK then.

        • @hollykryten:
          I never implied it was?
Anyways I think we've discussed this enough. :)

    • I have ordered at least 30 box sets from Amazon UK and have never had this issue….
edit - not X Files Box Sets, obviously - other Blu Ray Box Sets…

    • If they do that, and you complain, won't they have to arrange exchange? Or send a new set?

      • +1

Yes, but the replacement they sent had the same sort of damage. :p

        • Thanks for the heads-up on this.

The gouge would not happen to be an X across? Like how Fox Mulder make a masking tape X on his windows?
Those employees could be having fun … :-)

My goal in life is to one day have time to sit down and watch all of this. Remember the good old days of 22 episode seasons…

  • +1

LOL at the £191.32 price that it started out at release day. This is so cheaper now compared to then.

And ROFL at the price which JB Hi-Fi wants. They can't be serious. And these retailers wonder why people are buying from overseas instead. Well maybe because there's a $264.73 price difference which is way far higher than any 10% GST.

  • +1

This is an awesome price but will wait for it to fall below the $90 mark before I pull the trigger….

    • +3

And at the while JB Hi-Fi still has the Australian set marked at $380 while from overseas at Amazon UK the UK set is a couple of hundreds of dollars cheaper but since it's the same region B it plays on all blu-ray players in Australia. Stupid Australian retailers.

      • True, the UK packaging is a bit over the top though. This box set is BIG.

  • +2

Delivery isn't included in the price above. At Amazon's exchange rate it's ~A$126, or direct currency exchange around $121.60.

Still a great price though. :)

    • +1

thanks flumpf I've corrected the delivery price :)

  • Oh man this is actually at a decent price, but am I mistaken it could go lower?.

Am currently watching for 1st time nearing to the end of Season 9. I think I'll wait for it to get lower.

This show has aged really gracefully thanks to utilising almost no CGI. Brilliant main storyline, great acting, stand-alone episodes to keep things interesting. Highly recommended, especially if you like "Stranger Things".

    • +1

Love X-files, but Poirot as well … :-)
Any such deals on all seasons of Poirot?
That will be one I am interested in!

      • +1

I bought the complete boxset off amazon UK the day it became available. well worth it :) I couldn't bring myself to watch the very last episode "the curtain" yet though.

        • +1

Because you know how it ends, or because you like to have something to look forward to? :-)

I wish there were more … really like David Suchet as Poirot.

        • +1

          @bluesky:
          Both, mon ami :)

There is a documentary with David Suchet about his career as Poirot. Really interesting, especially the bit about his grandfather. Watch it! His book is great too.

        • @erd: Ah, using these little grey cells, I assume the first below, but I watched both of these:

          • Being Poirot
          • Who do you think you are? (tracing his ancestors, very moving!)

Have not read the book. Just looking here, there could be others for me to chase up. :-)

        • +1

          @bluesky:

But of course! You're right, both were great. His grandpa faking french accent for a living, brilliant.

The book is called "Poirot and me". He should have called it "it is I, Poirot" :)

        • @erd:

He should have called it "it is I, Poirot"

Absolutely … "Poirot and me" sounds rather uninspiring. Review says it is a fantastic book, I will look it up. Thanks for mentioning.

  • So this has just Season 1 through 9 and doesn't include the movies I Want to Believe and Fight the Future?

  • Last season of X-files appeared to be the handing over of batons to Agent Einstein and Miller. Hope Mulder and Scully do not fade from the show in future.
