Time for some maccas loose change

Targeted price? So sad OW doesn't sell QC35. It'd be hard to make a sale here if the price was much cheaper in the past.

  • try to match at Myer at $399…seems to be thee sweet spot for matching.

  • You can ask for this price at Bose exclusive shop.

  • Thanks, but no thanks.

  • $399 is max I'd pay.

    $249.95 is max I'd pay

  • does anyone know the difference between this and the QC25? Apart from the wireless part.

The QuietComfort® 35 headphones offer the same unmatched combination of acclaimed noise-reduction technology, audio performance and comfortable fit as QuietComfort® 25 headphones. However, QuietComfort® 35 headphones offer the convenience of wireless Bluetooth performance, as well as features like a dual-microphone system, voice prompts, intuitive controls and a 20-hour battery life. They also have the added benefit of volume-optimised EQ, which ensures Bose® quality audio at all volume settings.

      You can't use the QC25 with iFone7

      • +2

        Sure you can.

        The iPhone7 comes with a 3.5mm adapter.

        • To be honest, I wouldn't be all that comfortable having an iPhone in my pocket with a lightning port adapter hanging off it - the port just seems a bit too fragile (compared to a 3.5mm).

        • +1

          @2be8:

Sticky-tape the socket of the adapter to the 3.5mm plug of the headphone - now you're back to one cable.

        • @AlexF:
Sure, but a 3.5mm port can rotate without breaking and is doesn't have a lateral direction that is weaker than another.
          A lightning port does.

The 3.5mm port has its own problems, but it is better for purpose than a lightning port (or USB Type C port) in my view.

I'm not even adverse to adapters - it just seems like a pretty suboptimal design (the lightning->3.5mm adapter that is)

      • ahh shame I just bought the iPhone 7 Plus so I guess I'll buy the QC35 then. Oh wait, the phone comes with adapter…

        • It does sounds like there will be heaps of iphones in the near future with lightning port issues. lol. I hope they reinforced the port with titanium or something, cuz one drop with your headphones in will be bye bye…..

    • QC25 uses a replaceable AAA battery; QC35 uses a non-replaceable integrated LI-ION battery.

      • Don't underestimate value of aaa when travelling: 25s are easy to juice on the run, whereas access to power can be tricky in some locations/countries etc

        • -4

Where are you travelling to where you don't have somewhere to charge your phone?

        • +1

@Pigey: pensionday is talking about charging the battery for the QC35, not a phone. Charging a QC35 mid-flight defeats the purpose of having the QC35's in the first place.

        • I was actually meaning that having a AAA is an advantage rather than disadvantage; doubly so when the LI-ION can't be replaced when it doesn't hold charge well any more.

        • LI-ION can't be replaced when it doesn't hold charge well any more.

Does Bose even publicise QC35's number of battery recharge cycles or what percentage of charge is held half way through that number? - I doubt it.
Recharge batteries deteriorate even if you don't use them, so you can't freeze their capacity by not using.
Battery is a consumable so it wouldn't be covered by Australian Consumer Law.
          Seems like a foolhardy buy.

        • @AlexF: No, to the best of my knowledge they don't publicise it. As long as the battery is well maintained, it should be perfectly usable for 2-3 years but after that - well, I'll be looking at how to pull apart the headphones…

        • @2be8:

it should be perfectly usable for 2-3 years

your estimate is based in your previous experience with QC35?

        • @AlexF:
No, just based on typical LI-ION battery lifespans when well maintained.
          There are variables:
          * does the battery get hot when charging or discharging (it doesn't seem to based on the pair I have)
          * is the battery allowed to run down very low, or is it left at low or full charge for prolonged periods
          * how many charge-discharge cycles has it been through
          * how high the voltage is at which the battery is changed
          * how much the battery is actually charged at what is considered 'fully charged'.

With normal use, charging every few days, and assuming Bose didn't do anything really dumb with their charge circuits etc, I would expect to see about 10-15% capacity loss in the first year, and probably a similar amount in the second year.

        • @2be8:

So, in other words, you have absolutely nothing to back up your claim of 2-3 years in QC35.

        • @AlexF: Do you have anything beyond general discontent to offer?

Other headphones from Bose using LI-IONs do 500 cycles. These headphones supposedly do 20hrs on a charge (although if they go fully flat then the battery lifespan may suffer - depending on how low the charge in the battery is when Bose treats the battery at flat). If you are using them each and every day for 3 hours, and only let them run down 15hrs of capacity before recharging - and treat that as a cycle - then the battery will remain within those 500 cycles for over six years.

That's somewhat longer than I would realistically expect the batteries to last, but it will depend a lot on temperature, frequency of use (e.g. if they are left unused long enough for the battery to self-discharge, or outside the ideal storage range of around 50% then it will start to degrade), and so on.

    • It says you have to register and an account manager will contact you with details, anyone know more about this? Can you register with just an ABN or do you have to go through a long process/approval?

      • Long process, Turnover, GST status, signatures of CEO blah blah.
