FREE Xbox 360/Xbox One Game - 'Splosion Man from Xbox.com (Xbox Live Gold Subscription Required)

720

For those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription, 'Splosion Man is now free.

It is also backwards compatible on the Xbox One.

If you don't have one, the cheapest Gold subscription can be bought for $10.95 (for a 1-month card) at any Coles/Woolies, the three big department stores and at EB/JB. It will nab you this game, Mirror's Edge (this month's 2nd 'Games with Gold' game) and the next two 'Games with Gold' games (one on the 1st and the other on the 16th of October).

  • Love Splosionman

  • Played a few hours with the gf when it came out, pretty neat little game!

  • My Gold trial will be expiring in just under a week so this couldn't have come at a better time, cheers OP!

    • This won't work with Gold trials, at least didn't work with mine.

      • Mine's been downloaded since last night no probs. From what I know, you can grab games like this so long as your trial is a monther, or anything that needs a credit card like mine. This made me miss out on Tekken Tag 2 and the GWG a couple months back when I used a 2 weeker.

  • Nice, thanks OP.

Now I have the set, I got Ms Splosion chick for nix with my $9.00 XB360 HDD! :)

  • I don't think this is games with gold, just looks like a nice price drop. Tomorrow we are getting Mirrors Edge & AC Chronicles China, so Splosion Man should be ours to keep forever even without the Live sub I think. That's how it looks to me anyway.

      Already up for free. :-)

All 360 games with gold are yours to keep, even when your Live Lapses.

Only the Xbox One titles are the subscription based access.

Also it's weird this game is free, could be a glitch or for a different region, as Major Nelson's games with gold for September does not include this game.

      • Major Nelson's games with gold for September does not include this game.

It's not "Major Nelson's" anything whatsoever, that is just a blog.

It's XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD, at this direct link:

        http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Live/games-with-gold

        • I'm not an idiot, I can read.

Saying "Major Nelson's games with gold for September" was merely referring to the blog post, seen as Major Nelson's blog is where the games with gold are officially revealed (even before the Xbox.com's games with gold link is updated, since Major reveals them before the month is up), mentioning it didn't have any trace of this game was the factual information backing up the notation that this isn't a games with gold.

        • @Zylam Marex:

I posted the comment mainly for others to learn from.

To be honest I'd never heard of Major Nelson until recently. And I have no idea why M$ has that fake independent blog website.

Why not just announce directly, using Xbox or Microsoft domains?

        • @llama:

Major Nelson is a Microsoft employee and is considered the public face of Xbox.

          @llama:

I am yet to encounter a single person that thinks some guy from a 60's or 70's TV show is giving people free Xbox Live games from Microsoft.

Every company has a blog where they announce and explain updates for products, MS Have one for Windows too. A blog feels more personal and community based, much simpler than a website and better than a tweet. Xbox.com is more like an ad for Xbox and it's ego system, Software updates, etc are all explained elsewhere.

Major Nelson is Xbox's blog with a personality applied to it, he's been engaging the Xbox community for ages now and everyone is used to him, I don't know why you have a problem with that.

        • Major Nelson is a Microsoft employee and is considered the public face of Xbox

Yes, and that's quite silly when you think about it.

Why pretend that it's something that it's not?

        • @Zylam Marex:

I don't know why you have a problem with that.

          I don't know why you think I have a problem (I don't).

I was simply correcting an error made by another member.

If people want accurate info on Xbox Games For Gold, then go to the source (Xbox.com). It's a waste of time going to a blog site that then links to the Xbox site anyway.

You just don't get it. There's no point beating a dead horse here.

        • Let's get to the only salient issue here; I can't believe that "Major" Nelson is not actually a commissioned officer!

Now that little bit of fraud is the real story here…

        • @Zylam Marex:

No, I don't get it - Major Nelson means nothing to me. But I can also see that some people here just don't get what I am trying to say.

As I said before, like many other people, I have never heard of the blog until quite recently. Even after reading it I struggle to understand it's value…. it's just Microsoft marketing wrapped up to look like a private individual.

Anyway I am sure it has it's fanbois, and I assume that there are tons of people who'll lap it up. However I like my information to be a lot more transparent and a hell of a lot more impartial than that.

        • @llama:

You have convinced me, lets grab our torches and pitchforks and go attack a blog.

          LOLOLOL.

      • Oh I had no idea that you could keep the 360 games. And that's what I was trying to say originally, if it's not games with gold why didn't they just discount it to $2-$3 like they usually do? Not for one second complaining about a freebie but it's a bit odd.

    • It was released for free back in December 2014 with Games with Gold in Aus. Good to see it is free again for those who missed out previously.

  • Forza Horizon was the other free game for Xbox 360, this month.

    • +2

This isn't a games with gold deal. As well as Forza Horizon, the other free game this month for GwG is Mirrors Edge.

  • Prologue to Ms. Splosion Man also free. (add-on)

  • I'm looking forward to checking it out on my Xbox One as I never got to play this back in the day. Thanks OP. I wish that MS would bring back the XBLA initiative. Those first few years on the Xbox 360 were brilliant. There were lots of gems like this released.

  • Is anyone else having trouble getting Mirror's Edge to download?

I got ACC China and this to go fine, but ME has been giving me an error since last night even though it says it's free for Goldilocks.
