Cheap Snow Gear for Next Season

We've moved to Canberra recently and have decided to get a season pass for Perisher next year.
I already own my gear but my snowboard boots are dead and I'd like to look into a helmet.
Of coarse being an Ozbargainer I'll most likely buy a new jacket and pants to replace the perfectly fine ones I already own if I see something for the right price.

So I was wondering when is the right time to jump in and buy and who does the best sales?
I'm happy to do a trip to Cooma or Jindabyne but have no idea if they even clear out last seasons gear at decent prices.
What sort of discounts am I likely to see?

  • It depends on if you value going into a store and trying things out? I suspect there will be little discount in Jindabyne or Cooma. If you know your size and brands then I recommend you check out the regular sales at Torpedo7: http://www.torpedo7.com.au

    • definately need to try boots on, not only for size but comfort has been a big factor over the years with snowboard boots.

  • rebel sports has 70% off snow gear!

  • I was down at Jindabyne last weekend. Most of the stores there seem to have between 20-30% off most of last seasons kit. You should be able to get a deal on boots - but helmets might not be discounted. They tend to have the discounts on anything that has a season attached to it (hard goods, boots, clothing, etc) - but don't do deals on things like bags and gloves and things like that - but your mileage may vary.

You can check out Rhythm in Cooma as they have quite a large range, otherwise go all the way down to Jindy and there's no shortage of stores to look through!

  • A couple of years ago my son needed a new helmet, we went to the local ski shop to support local business, try the thing on etc. they wanted $200 ish for the helmet. I baulked as that sounded expensive. Went home and found the same helmet on level9sports from the US for about $80 AUD. I wanted to support local but the markup/difference was just too big. I ma a lodge member at Mt Buller in Melbourne and I ski in Australia and overseas each year. I cant think of any bits of the kit I've bought for myself or either of my 2 so0ns that i have bought in Australia. Almost all of it has come mail order from overseas.
