Hi Guys,
Looking for a decent laptop/notebook for under $500.
What is out there?
What should I expect for something for this price range.
Thanks
P.S. Ideally something small like the Asus ones for UNI purposes.

Do netbooks count? I know SS deserves eternal punishment for their maliciously deceitful conduct, but this is an example of an okay price:

Check your local uhh.. leaflets.
The cheapest one I have seen recently is probably the lenovo one which is uh….. https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=830&typeID=
It's pretty small though, you have to be sure you can deal with the size.
If not, the big electrical places generally have really good sale prices on these things.
If possible maybe try to get a 11" screen with slightly higher res, or at least a 10" screen with a higher res. 1366 x 768 is probably more usable.
2GB of ram is really a must these days, if you're confident you can put it in yourself and buy it for about 30 bucks from a computer shop, or else pay them a bit extra nd get it put in.
59 actually from MSY.
I'm on 512mb of ram with w7, 6 y.o. comp.

This is a good one:

for greater battery life you will have to go for a 10 inch screen - an eepc is fine.
