  • Will Jetstar price match these flights?

    • Unlikely, as they're not direct flights

      • Bugger I would have preferred to stop over in Tokyo (JS) than KL

        • Doesn't JQ do their stopover in Singapore?

  • Gold Coast to HK return 2 adults + Child $1190AU only issues is the 1 day stopover in KL but there is a supercheap hotel at airport run by airasia, I have paid more to fly to sydney.

    • There's also an even cheaper place called capsule by Container Hotel in klia2 downstairs where the bus terminal is. If you're fine with sleeping in a glorified box it's decent value.

All these Air Asia deals :( wish they still flew out from Adelaide!

13.40 hrs layover in KL??? Wow!

  • I'm a bit anxious to fly them as I read it here sometime ago they buy all the old planes from others and had quite a few near misses in the past…is it actually that bad?

    • is that Malaysia airline MH that goes missing? not Air asia

    • +1

I think the one that cops the most flak is the air asia Indonesia branch (flights starting with QZ)… Personally from the few times I've flown with them they didn't seem too bad. But granted I still think they're not one of the safest budget airlines. Scoot for me personally seems safer with their relatively new 787s and Singapore Airlines as their parent company.

homersyd. Yeah, know what you mean. There's a Air Asia plane crashing nearly everyday on the news!!!!

Erm, wait there….I've never actually seen one. Maybe their safety isn't that bad?

  • Wow, this must be the cheapest return fare SYD to HKG ever.

  • What is there to do in HONG KONG?

    • eat and sightseeing (old or new). There are a couple of really good museums, 1 even had a huge collection of Bruce Lee exhibits, that was awesome!!

      • oooo that sounds interesting thank you!

      • Eat proper yumcha and 'lai cha' (super strong milk tea), and roast goose!
      • Go to horse races every Wednesday
      • Disneyland (though it's small), and Ocean Park
      • Hike around Victoria Peak after looking down at the harbour
      • Buy cheap(ish) stuff at markets
      • consult tripadvisor for more info
      • Thank you, yeah the internet is fine but sometimes its nice to have real people reply.

their stuff is not really cheap, I don't know why all the travel book recommend TST and Mongkok for all the fake stuffs at inflated price. If you are on this forum you know that it is cheaper to buy online on Aliexpress + ebay during sale and get it shipped directly to your home.

Only eating is nice and cheap (not really but it is OK), their electronic gadget price is ridiculous in the shop. Their shop rent is too high is partly the reason.

Not sure about others but I find www.iwantthatflight.com.au a nightmare to use - lags, website freezing, popups, etc (I know you can untick the pop ups).
I much prefer to use skyscanner.com.au, same prices too from what I can see

  • can't imagine recently the air ticket deals are so cheap yet so close to travelling dates, i don't recall seeing it often, usually is around 6 months ahead or more.

Don't get tricked by the low price as you will most likely end up a flight with 20 hours duration.

Are you forgetting who you're talking to?

      • +3

Not really that cheap if you have luggage, you will need to add $120+ (25kg) and meal (~50). The total cost may not be that much different from full service airlines and very tiring flight.

I just got back from HK using AA, I usually fly them if I don't have luggage and I want to travel in Asia. Here is what you should expect

        • My flight in HK is at 11.45AM, I have to get up at 7.30, need to get bus to airport for ~1h
        • 4h flight to KL, then layover ~5h
        • 7.5h flight to Melbourne, landed at 9AM Melb time.

You can get the later flight to KL at 1.30PM so the layover time is about ~3h, still the total journey time is way too tiring compare to ~9h direct flight from Qantas.

If the fare difference is ~100, is it really worth it to waste 20h of your time and sacrifice your health? It is worth it if you want to travel in the area, i.e Malaysia, VN, Thailand, Singapore.

For the cost, if you add meal + luggage it is not that cheaper from Qantas sale fare anyway, even more expensive, don't forget you get QFF points which can either be redeemed for giftcard or sell it for 1c/pt (~$75)

Being ozbargainer does not mean that you got tricked by these fare, be a smart one and do your calculation right.

        • Pack your own lunch or binge before you leave.

  • AA are carryon weight nazis - i was stung last trip 1 kilo over
