Not for portrait, you need a longer focal length for portrait like 50mm on D3200 because of the crop factor.
This is DX not FX.
I don't know what that means.
It will be fine if you want nice creamy backgrounds. You might have to be a little bit close to your subject though, but you might actually appreciate the fact that you don't have to step too far back to take a wide picture.
Ok great, that sounds like the right sort of thing then :)
@huwcar:
Normally you would use FX lenses on cameras with FX-format sensors.
Or DX lenses on cameras with DX-format sensors.
The Nikon D3200 is a DX camera.
Short answer is yes 😀. I have one for my d3300 and it's great lens for portrait, night and even landscape.
Most people like a longer lens for portraits.
Something like a 85mm (ff equivalent) would be the sweet spot I think, and a fast aperture for good subject isolation.
i have this lens and it is really excellent
i also have the fx 50mm (which means it ends up being 70mm+ or something on the DX camera) anyway I use the 50mm for portraits and the 35mm for everyday walking around & night shots. Hardly use the kit lenses anymore
This is a lovely lens to shoot with, and at a good price.
I actually throw this onto my FX camera too, and use it without crop mode. It's sweet to have a fast wide lens, but just take note the vignetting is extreme since the lens is a DX.
That seems a bit wasteful since Nikon have made about 7 million fast 50 lenses for FF, but up to you.
I have a 35mm DX because I upgraded from a d90 to a d610. I suppose the waste is me not selling that off, but I'm very procrastinating when it comes to selling lenses.
I do have a 50 and 85 1.8, which are brilliant.
I thought this lens was supposed to be about the only DX lens ever made that was usable on fx bodies? How extreme is it?
@kevitkotw:
Indoors, where light is limited you'll see blackish corners. Not noticeable on a bright day outdoors.
Is this a good lens for portraits?
Would this be compatible with my wife's Nikon D3200?
