My Liability with a Coles Reloadable Mastercard

Hi Guys, I am going to travel to China next week. I wanted to deposit to my CitiPlus debit card and found it out my account was closed due to inactivity.

My option: I have got Coles Reloadable MasterCard, but have to increase the card limit before it can be used to an overseas ATM. I already increased it to 10,000 limit, no other limit option.

I will deposit max $3000 in my card , but I am worry if I had got scammed, What is the risk? Would I lose max $3,000 or $10,000?

Thanks very much!

  • I've only once had to make a chargeback on a prepaid card and that was while the company who sold them went under. The card issuer listed on the card didn't want to do anything.
It was a horrible experience that lead no where.

Call up Coles and ask them how to make a chargeback if it is ever needed, if they give you a clear answer they are you good to go.

  • You are protected for the amount you lost, not the max amount of the card. If you deposit $3k, you are protected for $3k

  • Cash is king in China.

Overseas credit cards are not that widely accepted. But you can get cash from most ATMs.

  • "closed due to inactivity"

There have been different people reporting that their cards were closed but a call to CitiBank got things working again.
I haven't used mine since last year but I transfer some money in and out of the account between CitiBank accounts and hopefully keep it active that way.
