  • How do I claim my bonus $499?

  • -1

For the 950/xl, is the deal the price or the free dingle?

    • +6

      The free dingo, yeah.

      • +5

Pfft. Not worth…i hear they just steal your baby….

        • Dont worry, need to marry first..

        • @Gaggy: You don't need to marry the dingo to have a baby.

        • @ozmu: Dont lie now. Dingo just took her baby back.

  • +7

Dunno what the future holds for Windows 10 Mobile. Word has it that Lumia devices are no longer listed on the M$ US store. It c our mean a rebranding is about to happen. Either that or M$ is about to abandon the OS.
FWIW, I love the OS. My all time favorite device is the Lumia 1520 with its monstrous screen and terrific battery life. Sadly, they don't make them like that anymore.

    • -1

Yup. New Lumias look like ass compared to the old Nokia ones.

Very tempted but have no idea what I would do with a 2nd phone.

      • +1

True that. Wouldn't mind replacing my old One M8 with a XL but I doubt it'll have nearly as much longevity as the 1520 with that QHD display and firedragon 820.

        • 810

820 is actually a good SoC heh. But yeah, that 1520 had such good battery life. And to think at the time I thought it was too big and waited for the 930, how wrong I was :p

        • @TheContact: A typo :) I actually meant the 810.

        • +1

Battery Life has been great since the Anniversary update.

        • +1

@Damonator84: Yeah my 950XL would need to be recharged daily, but I can get away with every second or third now.

        • @Online Bathroomware: Yeah I get a day, and still only half… Or three quarters out of my band2, eh I'm active I guess.

        • When I first purchased my standard 950, I was set on getting a portable battery pack to make sure I had enough charge to get through the day, but never got around to buying one as I have been so impressed by the battery life. My mate has the XL and that is just as good (his sees even more use than mine).

      • Take a look at the Mozo case selection. I've had the black leather with silver highlights and the Walnut (wood) case. Extremely high quality cases that add a premium feel and maintains NFC and Qi support to boot. Well worth the money.

        • They definitely look a lot nicer than the standard case, but I've heard the finish comes off relatively easily, given the premium pricing for them that is.

        • Neither mine or my mates Mozo cases have experienced such an issue.

    • +3

They won't abandon WinMo10. Take a look at HP Elite X3 http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Offer.aspx?p=…. Best work phone running WM10 so far.

      • Also expensive AF.

      • +1

I'd be surprised if a software company abandoned a move into the mobile market with their own OS.

        All it needs are apps.

        • +1

The One Windows strategy will help the app situation. It will take some time though.

        • @ozmu:

          Google's One Windows strategy

Ah yes. I thought this was due out with Windows 10? I figured it had been abandoned.

    • Nokia is back for android phones.

      • +2

Bad move. Android is already crowded.

        • If Nokia uses clean Android OS like Motorola does, also keeping the great durability like the old Nokia phones, I'll not refuse to buy and try.

      • i hope they bring out a Nokia 3310 running Android ;)

      • There are too many chinese manufacturers doing a great job with decent Android phones. Nokia coming in late would not make a big difference. Hence, this won't be a good move for Nokia.

    • Currently doing a marketing report for the Lumia 950 for Uni

According to some research, microsoft are cutting the lumia line but are focusing the mobile OS to a more business/enterprise sense

      • you are right
Windows mobile is part of the Microsoft ecosystem
that's why they entered the mobile market
it would not be so useful for home users

  • My guess is that these are old controllers without the headphone jack. In the last sale the listing said wireless controller with 3.5mm jack and a few people got free second controllers when we received one without the jack, looks like they have gone out of their way to leave it off the ad this time.

Just an observation to be aware of, but then again I could be wrong. :)

    • Xbox One wireless controller with 3.5mm headset jack

I see you didn't click on any of the links to the bundles as it states what i copy pasted above.

      • +1

Don't jump on him so quickly. Only a few of the listings state they come with the 3.5mm jack. Hell, the Halo one specifically shows the headset which means it definitely comes with an old controller.

      • I did click the links on Fallout and the Ori consoles where it doesn't mention the jack. Rainbow Six also leaves it out.

  • Thanks bought a choice of game 1tb bundle

  • +2

Thanks been waiting for the Lumias to drop.

Grabbed a 950 and will team it with one of these http://www.mobilezap.com.au/55709-mozo-microsoft-lumia-950-w…

  • +1

    Take that iPhone 7…

    • Except the apps, the 950s score over the iPhones in everything else.

      • And speed. iPhones are simply faster than everything out there.

        • Depends on what you're doing. 950s on Edge will work as fast as you need. Hard to compare speed on a phone since we already know apps are different on both platforms.

        • @ozmu: App loading. NVMe vs eMMC. A9, and now A10 in iPhones are also stupidly fast. And that's compared to the 820. Qualcomm completely f'ed up with the 808 and 810.

        • @TheContact: Thankfully the 810 in the 950XL is a revision, so it doesn't experience the same issues. Make sure you install the Anniversary update to get the most of out the battery and heat reduction though.

      • You can't compare phones spec-by-spec running different software, otherwise how do you explain why iPhones fly vs resuming screens on WP/W10m, despite some ostensibly superior specs. Saying one 'outscores' the other by going down a spec sheet is not representative of real world use.

  • How's Xbox one these days? Sale number doesn't look too good compare to ps4. Bad thing if ps4 has monopoly on console gaming. I used to have Xbox 360 and I loved it. Hardware and exclusive game wise Xbox one is losing the battle.

    • If only it didnt require a 2GB update every second day when you turn it on (XBOne).. The updates are worse than Windows 10.

      • Xbox runs on Windows 10. But I do agree with the updates part.

      • +2

Set it to always on. Problem fixed… Shesus.

      • That's the fun of it

      • +1

I'm assuming you're in the preview program? If so, that means that you have missed an update. Each update is usually only about 300mb, but if you miss one and they release another you have to download the entire OS version again, which is why it is a few gigs. If you leave your console in "instant on" you will never miss one, and then never have the massive download.

If you're not in the preview program then you are just telling lies, as they do not have updates that frequently to the general public.

      • The problem isn't the Xbox, it is the speed of internet in Australia.

    • Not sure what sales numbers you have seen but they swap being #1 each month in sales fairly often. PS4 still has overall lead in sales from day 1 but for July & August the XBOX ONE sold more than PS4
      https://gamerant.com/xbox-one-beats-ps4-sales-august-2016/

Personally, I would only by an XBOX ONE S going forward as not that much more $$ for the upgrades you get.

      • Not sure what sales numbers you have seen but they swap being #1 each month in sales fairly often.

Not really - PS4 has won every NPD sales month since 2013 apart from 3 or 4, 2 of which were the last 2 months. Worldwide it's not even close, PS4 in a landslide.

Don't forget 10% off with student discount if you are eligible! Brings the Lumias down to a very tasty price.

    • That makes it really bargain level.

    Major misread - Saw - Buy a Lumia 950XL $499 + Bonus Xbox One 1TB

    Stupid screen wrap

  • heres hoping when MS finally abandons windows phone they'll unlock the bootloaders and let users install android. a 950XL with android would be a decent beast of a phone.

    • Is there any possible chance of that happening? Serious question.

      • Microsoft isn't going to abandon anything. But there is no limit for one to dream

        • Even if they did, just unlocking the bootloader won't do much to get a fully functional Android build. They'd have to actively work to develop drivers for it as well.

        • @TheContact: It's a pretty standard piece of hardware, the dev community out there would flock to develop the right drivers and software (especially if accompanied by a sub-$400 fire-sale).

But I think sbrulz and ozmu are right, the chance of MS actually admitting defeat is minimal. They will just leave windows phone to limp along.

        • @xyron: Camera and iris sensor though. Sure the 810/808 is pretty standard, but take out the great camera and iris sensor, and you're better off just getting another Android device.

      • Not a chance. Zilch.

      • They might not abandon it, but they've publicly told you that mobile isn't their focus at the moment.

You're signing up for a platform that's not the businesses focus, says it all. They won't abandon the platform - at least while hardware partners have just released a device - but slow updates, little to no new features…basically the service equivalent of abandoning it all without telling you.

  • +1

for those that that considering this phone please make sure you can live without your favourite apps

I am temporarily using the Lumia 930 and for me it is missing Snapchat, Chrome/firefox, youtube, Swiftkey (weird considering this one is owned by MS)

not a deal breaker just something to be aware of.

    • +1

If you pick up a 950, Edge can run the desktop / mobile version of YouTube just fine.

Definitely don't get a 950 if you're an obsessive user Snapchat or Tinder.

I've not used Swiftkey before, but wouldn't it only be truly beneficial for long words since you can swipe the keyboard to input anyway?

      • 6Tin is pretty good though really.

    • Edit: N/m i thought swift key was that thing where you can drag your fingers across the keys

  • They gotta pay me a daily rate for the added inefficiency a windows phone will cause me to my daily life :)

    • +1

Won't be able to Snapchats or Tinder dates? :P

      • +2

That's what my $100 Xamoni or whatever it's called phone is for.. Work and snappy. Owned a 950XL. Fkn brilliant phone!

        • +1

Yep, I do the same. Have a cheap Android for time wasting apps.

      • Tinder is available as 3rd party app called 6tin… If that tickles your fancy.

    • +1

Like get your work done without chasing pokemon ;-)

      • There's a pokemon go app for windows phone. There's also an app to access Snapchat, think it's called spector. Usually some small time developer makes app to fill in gaps. Sometimes they are better than the first party ones. :D

        • And sometimes an API change from above completely breaks it. 3rd party apps aren't a long term solution.

        • @Strand0410:

That's true. :) Also with apps like the pokemon apparently sometimes accounts get banned for not using official app.

      • +1

never chased a pokemon….but you give me ideas….Windows phone may not have a pokemon chaser…good for my son. See how we found a value in the windows phone? This is called a contrarian approach.

        • As a smartphone it is incredibly good value. Just not good enough for the masses

        • @ozmu: I disagree. For ~400, a one plus 3 would crush this phone :)

  • Lumia's are on the way out which means these devices are living on borrowed time. What might be interesting though is what happens when they are discontinued and Microsoft have to honour warranty? Would they replace it with the current device at the time. If it comes to that then this is an awesome deal ;)

    • +1

Of course they will have to honour your warranty. Microsoft isn't going bust…

      • Of course. I am just salivating at the prospect of getting a current device at the time when the time comes to honour warranty.

  • +1

I've been waiting so long for a 950 at this price that I moved to Android. Still have my 930. Can't justify a 950 now. Not with so much uncertainty surrounding everything. Bummer…

    • Windows Mobile is still going to be fully supported. It's just the Lumia branding that will be replaced with Surface branding if the rumours are true.

      • Can't add the phones to my cart anyway! Saved my $500…
