Which SUV to Buy under $28k?

So, I am in the market looking for an SUV under $28000 to replace my 2013 Hyundai Elantra.

I really don't want to spend more than 28k but I also want the car to be loaded with Tech.

I know am asking for a lot more that what I am ready to pay for.

I am just seeing all these cars with Lane change assist, around the view, Park assist, Blind Spot detection, 7-8 inch screens, Apple.Android Auto and many more features including alloy wheels etc which are mostly in the top models above my budget.

I am not in a rush and I am happy to wait until the end of the year only if there would be better deals.

Could you guys help me Narrow it down for me as I am pretty confused?

Pretty open to selection right now and will basically pick any which offers great price + features.

Car has to be New or Demo

The cars I am quoting below may be beyond the budget but I am listing them hoping there will be better deals on them over the coming months.

Sounds like you need to work so you can buy a car to drive to work

  • I am looking at suvs at the moment and my top picks are subaru xv, suzuki vitara, maxda cx3 and mitsubshi asx. It is tough to decide what to buy

    • +4

      Subaru XV ^_^

      • I have a 2000 outback so the transition would be easy

Go and test drive them all and see which one you like. Asking the internet is like asking for someones personal opinion.

    • Thanks. Will try em out

I was in similar situation (+ some other health related issues) and planning to buy a SUV mainly for Urban use and some Highway. The best I was able to get in < 30K was Suzuki Vitara turbo. It has more + than -.

    Plus

    • Stylish
    • Very good Visibility
    • Lots of tech - Sat Nav, key less, Front & Back Sensor, Digi Climate, Auto Wiper, Auto Light, Cruise, Speed Limiter
    • Really powerful. Not just looking at the HP but with Power-to-weight ratio (1.4 Turbo is same as other 2.0 Aspirated in the list). Turbo kicks in immediatly and at low RPM and steep hills are not a problem at all. Overtaking is a breeze.
    • Seat position is very good. You will get similar experience as you are sitting in a normal chair. Your hip will almost parellel to the ground if you keep the seat at the higest position. (I measured all the SUVs i test drove)
    • Fuel efficient - Even in B2B traffic in Sydney where I take 8-10 minute to travel 1 KM (near Victoria Rd), i am still doing 7-7.5 per 100K. My old was doing 12L per 100KM.
    • Exceptional handling - Drive like a hatchback. No rolling at all. I have tried very sharp bends at almost 90-100 degrees. Things in the car were thrown around.
    • Doors are wide opening – almost 80-90 degrees. Easy to get in -out

    Minus

    • Interior won’t feel good at the first look. But I am used to it. Also easy to clean and minimal cluttering.
    • Doors are hard to close. When you close, you can’t just pull it towards you and leave it. Your hand should be still holding the handle pulling it to stop it from bouncing. Not sure why. Only happens for the Front 2 doors.
    • The Ride is not as good as the Hyundai Tucson. A bit on firm side (not that bad at all) but not a big problem for me.
    • No idea when Android Auto comes.
    • And No ‘manual or remote’ start option or start override. I faced issues with Start button. Not sure if it’s a problem from my side or car. On 2 occasions, I found brake pedal too hard that I can’t press it without which you can’t start. Mostly vacuum issue. Once started it’s all OK. This normally happens when you pump the brake when the engine is turned off. I doubt I did that. Will request the Service team to check it.
    • No full spare wheel. Couldnt get any seat cover as well.

You can get White for 29K dive-away. There is a whirlpool thread you can check out.

    • Good to hear you still enjoy it :)

And yeah the door close thing is on all of them, just need a bit more force than normal

    • Love the entire package on Vitara turbo. Only thing i dont like about it is the back design?

    • Im assuming this is for the 2wd option. Dont really see a point buying a suv which is not awd or 4wd

  • Just bought a Mitsubishi ASX auto $25K drive away. Has reverse camera and sensors. So far happy with it.

  • OP - The Vitara, you're looking at the Turbo model yeah? You might just be able to get into a Turbo for that sort of budget… just!

    • +1

Yes iam looking at the turbo. Thanks

  • Mitsubishi Outlander going for $27,990 on another OzB thread if you interested:

    • Wondering if the model above that would go on a better deal towards the end of the year than what ita on currently as it is loaded with so much more
