  • wow thats cheap thanks

  • Why is there a picture of the Sydney Opera House? Do I get it free with the hdd?

    • +4

You can use the 10 EARS to hear things at the Sydney Opera house. I have 5 personally, two is so last mutation.

  • nice that there's no address or phone

    • only got skype phone email address only

  • Damn can't price match @ OW :)

  • The picture is an EACS. But specs say EARS.

  • anyone bought from these guys before?

    • +2

Someone mentioned in another deal from these guys that they are a part of 9289.com.au and that the sender address is exactly the same as on deliveries from 9289.

  • Can anybody advise me regarding the possibility to use this as a stand-alone HD? Do you reckon I could just buy a casing for around 20 bucks and use it as an external harddrive then? Sorry for my computing ignorance. :) Appreciate your help.

Or else, what would you recommend?

    • good point below :)

    • you two are a very nice couple in the photo.

  • +3

You can buy an external casing and put this drive inside. but for the cost of the external casing and the hassle of having to install it. You can just purchase an external drive..someone posted a 1TB WD external for $95 at OW. so $16 extra dollars.. I'd take that over buying this and buying a casing seperately

    • Sounds great. Thanks! :)

    • External cases are rather cheap and it's not hard at all to install. Open up the case, plug it in, close the case, enjoy.

  • But if it's not for use as an external HD, why would someone put a 5400rpm disk in his tower?

    • I agree with you. I would personally pay extra for 7200rpm but it is a good deal.
However because of these things I would recommend it if the situation was right for someone:
      1. NOISE
      2. Power consumption.
      3. If you put 2 of these in a tower and had them in RAID 0 the speed would be alright.
      4. If you boot off an SSD and use one of these for data you won't notice a problem

But I think personally by 7200rpm. But if you do as above you won't find it bad. Some computer shops, like the one that sold me mine, said that it can spin up to 7200rpm. I have found that somewhere on the web before but the speed is very hard to find on wdc.com. I tested the speed with Xbench for Mac and it did not speed up to 7200rpm. It stayed giving me 5400rpm read and write speeds.

      • Yeah i couldn't find it on the official WD site, only on Newegg did it say it was 5400rpm

Nonetheless its still a good price if you're looking for this size

    • +3

Absolutely nothing wrong with 5200rpm drives to be used as storage drives.

    • these are green drives speed varies between 5400-7200rpm unless i am wrong…but since its green drives everyone would just say its slowest speed. these drives are same as what you will get if you walk into msy ask for wd 1tb and also officeworks stocks the most. Not to mention most computers still use these drives coz they trying to save cost.

  • so has anyone bought from them yet?

    • Before this drive they had a Seagate 7200.12 1TB drive for the same price, I ordered one of them but it hasn't arrived yet.

I've bought a fair bit over the past couple of years from their parent company. I also got my free HDMI cable from them last week.

  • A check of the ACN for this seller links it to 9289. ACN: 128917680
Why go to all this trouble?? why not just use their outlet? DOH!!

    • lol coz 9289.com.au is selling $88.00? i dont knowwww

    • +3

Because it's a different pricing model.

It's the same reason DailyDeals started Catch of the Day instead of just using their existing online and physical shop. You can sell different quantities of stock, and you can price it differently, you can order in bulk and sell it all in one go, and most importantly of all: you can encourage impulse buying. You want people to buy stuff they don't necessarily need right now, so a time limit does the trick. It's the same theory as weekly catalogues in physical shops (most recently the supermarkets have been doing the bulk buy type things where to get a discount you have to buy 6 tins of tuna or three cartons of stock or something like that).

There's also that if they can sell in bulk on this site, it could lower their costs for couriers for their regular site (9289).

If you need a hard disk, you're not going to wait until it pops up on a one-item-a-day site. You're going to buy it when you need it. But if you've been thinking about buying a hard disk, when one pops up at a good price for a short time you might just grab it.

That said, I don't understand why they don't associate it with their established name. It would've made a lot of people more comfortable shopping with them.

  • startin to look dodge…GG

dont know how… I been customer for 9289.com.au for quite a long time, their services are good. tho if you try to confirm the specs they cant normally give you the right one as the person that handles the email response just grab details of the supplier's website.

to me 9289 is cheaper and fast delivery so far.

  • +1

Just bought one… really good price and also no worries about being scammed since you pay via paypal. Ill simply file a paypal complaint and get my money back if they try to pull one over me but I think it should be fine.

  • Damn, great deal. Sold out already though.

    • I went there 30 mins ago, said "Sold out".

I went there now, says "1". So now I bought one. It still says "1".

      I wonder if I will get 1 :P

I also wonder if it's gonna be an EACS or an EARS :P

      • Sucked in, the 1 is a marketing ploy, it always says "1".

Of course they don't identify what the "1" means so I guess that's how they're being dodgy about getting people to impulse buy!

        • The 1 is the quantity you're ordering. You can change the number.

  • lol not this website again.

  • Their ACN number isn't even valid for their business. It's for IDEAM PTY LIMITED

    • I've bought stuff off 9289 and the invoice they send says Ideam Pty Ltd so I would think this is safe

  • using a trading name with an ACN that is for a registered business name is legal… and normal

  • Might also add that they're jumping on the FB bandwagon too… Once they hit 2000 fans, they'll have a draw to win $1000.

    • wheres the page? i have deals dash as my friend thats it

      • paypal is still accepting my order/purchase at 2am monday morning.

  • currently it is $120, Please change the title to SOLD OUT or something :(

    • It's a different drive (a faster one). Not such a good deal anyway, but it is different.

  • +1

    got mine today all good

    • Thats a reasonable delivery time :)
