Premium red packs are always well met and there are some crackers on show here. Average bottle cost is under $25 a bottle here and comes with free delivery to anywhere in Australia. It is a chance to grab a few flagship wines, most with high James Halliday ratings. Here is a little info on the big ticket wines:
2014 Pertaringa The Yeoman Shiraz ($250 RRP) - Flagship wine from Geoff Hardy. Only made when the McLaren Vale has had a particularly great vintage. The past two releases saw scores of 96 & 95 from JH and this one, when reviewed will be up there, if not higher. A good chance to try something you might not normally buy on it's own due to the monster price tag, but as part of a mixed dozen, easy decision.
2013 Richard Hamilton Centurion Shiraz (RRP $80) - Another flagship from the McLaren Vale. 120+ year old vines make for concentrated, full flavoured beast. High scores from Rob Geddes and James Halliday. It's not too often JH gives the "special value" star to wines $75+ a bottle.
2013 Handpicked Collection Heathcote Shiraz (RRP $77) - Dominated by inky black and blue fruit but also showing a little liquorice, chocolate and mint. Great length and fine tannin also.
2012 Handpicked Collection Barossa Shiraz (RRP $77) - Quite possibly my personal favourite in the bunch! Lots of silky, elegant chocolate, oak and bold black fruit. Definitely a Barossa Shiraz. A combination of French and German oak make it a monster Barossa Shiraz, will not disappoint.
