Samsung 3D Blu-Ray Player or PS3?

Have been looking for a reasonably priced 3D Blu-Ray player recently and came across this Samsung Wi-Fi 3D Blu-Ray Player at HN for $165. However I realized that I could also just get a 2nd hand PS3 which also supports 3D Blu-Ray and has Wi-Fi for almost half the price.

Is it worth getting the Samsung Blu-Ray player, or should I just get the PS3 instead? Thanks :)

Have a read. Basically the PS3 doesn't tick all the boxes that a decent blu-ray player will

IMO stick to the Samsung :)

Oh and cmon, you should've checked GGs ;)

Same price as HN, but you know how you can get $25 off :)

    • Thanks! Would the PS3 be useful for just normal Blu-Ray though? :) I probably wouldn't be using the 3D functionality as much and was only intending to buy it since my TV is compatible to play 3D… Will most likely buy the Samsung though thanks! And yeah, 1 more week left I believe before the next voucher is sent :D

        To quote the article:

For the sake of comparison, we held a disc-to-screen loading race with the BDP-S570. This proved a revelation. The BDP-S570 thrashed the PS3, getting the job done in nearly half the time.

In a 2D picture-performance shoot-out, the stand-alone player also outgunned the PS3, offering more detail in its image.

        I'd still go the Samsung

        • No worries, cheers :) Will go for the Samsung too

Unless you like to play ps3 games stick to samsung or a blue ray player. for ps3 its too hard using the controller as remote. but if are into gaming then ps3 would do fine. i used my ps3 as a back up blue ray player but it was primarily used for gaming. I think some target stores still have the new 12gb PS3 stocks for $100. I remember seeing but not sure.

    i have a PS3 (now4) for a blu-ray player but only cos the we wanted a console.
if i just wanted a blu-ray player i would buy a real one. the consoles work but are clunkier than a dedicated player, no remote (unless you buy one separate but still is clunky to use).
you are also comparing a new samsung with a used console that has a harddrive that may fail, a blu-ray drive that may fail…

  • I bought a PS3 when target had them for $99 and happened to get the remote from big w for $5. Even though i already have a decent 3d blu ray Ive been using the ps3 as a decent streaming hub for netflix stan etc. Its very convenient and the added bonus of games is good. If you can find a cheap ps3 and not too worried about 3d its still a good deal.

In my mind, buying something cheaper with more functionality? As PVA has said though. It is very old tech now so could arguably fail.
