Tips for selling gold jewellery

Hi OzBargainers,

I'm after some advice/tips on selling some gold jewellery. We got given some (brand new) gold bangles and necklaces from relatives for our baby daughter when she was born (family tradition to do so). Most of the jewellery designs are quite old-fashioned in my opinion and neither my husband nor I are particularly into putting jewellery on our kid, so the gold has just been sitting there in the drawer.

I'm thinking of selling them and was wondering if anyone has had any experience in selling their gold jewellery before. Any tips on which types of shops to sell them to, where to sell them (I'm in Sydney) and how to get the best deal would be greatly appreciated.
