I saw someone made a halo in this!

  • When i click on it on it it "The thing you're looking for isn't here" do i need to change anything?

    • oh my bad the update haha

      • +4

They release the Windows 10 build upgrades in staged rollouts, best bet is to manually perform the upgrade- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-up…

        • +1

I was debating whether to do this or not, but in the end took the plunge and prayed to not have any issues with the new update. Turns out - it actually FIXED a major issue I was having with my mechanical HDD (for some reason my drive had constant activity and really low intermittent speeds - around 2mb/s) which had been driving me crazy for the last month or so. I tried everything under the sun in BIOS/swapping cloned drive/physically changing SATA ports/driver updates/downgrades you name it.

As soon as I updated windows - BOOM. Problem gone AND I can now play Halo and Forza. Thanks for the link!

  • wont let me download

I checked and my computer is still on version 1511, not the Anniversary Edition (1607). But reading the reasons that the new update isn't installed, it seems like a main reason might be that my hardware isn't verified to be compatible yet. I'm a bit leery of forcing an update!

PS: To check your version, run command "winver".

What if it makes my computer a sick puppy… "the Windows 10 Anniversary Update comes with numerous innovative features, yet it generates all kinds of issues, such as no Wi-Fi, USB not working, black screen, no sound, etc. "

"Microsoft uses all those telemetry features in Windows 10 to detect if there are problems with specific hardware or applications. If Microsoft discovers a problem on a certain hardware configuration, it may pause rollouts for that hardware configuration while it prepares a fix." http://www.howtogeek.com/270846/why-your-pc-hasnt-received-t…

PS: My system is custom and took a lot of work to install Windows 10 the first time. So that's why I'm avoiding it. I think a "normal" system will be less trouble to update.

        • +1

I'd you experience issues just hold shift and click restart then in the advanced startup screen click on restore previous build and it will revert back.

    • +1

Yeah ive heard of people having all sorts of weird issues with 1607. I'm happy on 1511 until my computer decides to update (whenever that is)

      • I will wait for 1608 … mine rolled back 3 times ……. so I'm sure eventually they will push a version that works for my PC

        • Try downloading the ISO and doing an upgrade from that. I have found from at work when the automatic build updates fail on a customers computer the ISO will often succeed.

  • +5

I've been downloading this for the past 24 hours and I've still got 15GB left. The downloader isn't the best and doesn't tell you speed or ETA.

For those who can't see the option to download, you can try changing your region to US.

    • +1

Yup, type Region into the start menu and then click the one with the colored icon that says "Control Panel" underneath. On the first tab change the display format from "Match Language" to "English (Australia)" and then on the 2nd tab that says Location set it to "United States" and you will get the USA Windows Store.

  • It won't let me update - I am using Windows 10 Enterprise.

    • If your using 10 Enterprise you need to work with your corporate admin for the update, Ent is abit different due to the Enterprise features,

      • what if i am the admin and this is a standalone personal pc that i stupidly installed enterprise on?

        • Assuming you are legally licensed I would recommend downgrading it so you have access to the Windows 10 Update Assistant tool.

          But so you know,

I am running Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education; how can I get the Anniversary Update version?

Volume License customers can download the latest Windows 10 Enterprise Anniversary Update ISO from the Volume License Service Center, then perform a repair upgrade.

        • If you don't have access to the VLSC (Which if you are legally licensed I don't see why would you not) you can also try this way, however its a very 'hacky' way to get it done

          http://superuser.com/a/1122582
          Use at own risk

        • Oh just download the latest 1607 enterprise iso from wherever (hopefully msdn/dreamspark/bizspark) and verify the SHA-1 then run setup.exe and it will perform an upgrade for you. The enterprise versions don't get automatic build updates.

        • @brent3000: im only on enterprise because i struggled to downgrade my edition

nothing i tried worked to get it down to pro

        • @brent3000: ah i tried the superuser method earlier but didnt work

just realised why, i forgot to change one of the edition ids

          just worked :)

if only there was a proper downgrade method without wiping my install

entering a Pro key doesnt work

        • @furythree:
If you got it from the VLSC they don't support downgrades, you need to have gone from Pro to Ent to be able to downgrade,

Its part of the enterprise features ;-)

        • @furythree: for a proper downgrade you need to just Google the Microsoft Windows 10 download and then press advanced download and download the ISO for Home/Pro (it's combined iso) then do the edition id switch to pro in the registry and run the setup.exe from that iso.

        • @Agret: i have the home pro iso

but if i use that one it doesnt let me keep all my files during setup

i have some ESD version which includes all 3 versions, but that doesnt let me select which edition

I'm glad that GFX quality is improving, as shown by the increasing size of games, but it doesn't help when your down speed is 250kb/s peak. I mean, that would probably be 3 day download or more.

    • +2

The graphics in this are actually pretty bad. The textures especially are very low quality. I'm not sure why the download is so big.

      • +1

The GFX reminds me of the Halo Custom Edition dayz.

      • +3

I think I read on reddit there's about 12gb of different language files.

  • +3

I have to say, attempting to download this has really shown me that the Windows 10 store really needs some work.

Gabe Newell shouldnt have been so worried.

  • +1

sorry for sounding noob, but is this just a level/game editor or does this include an actual game?

    • Part of a full game.

    • +2

Just the editor as of now. The next Halo game will be a full release on PC however

      • is that confirmed?

        • Sort of….Because this year at E3, Microsoft said that all their games are coming to windows 10. This would definitely mean the next Halo game.

    • +2

"Forge is two things: a robust mapmaking tool with new controls for the mouse and keyboard, and a custom game mode for playing on Halo 5’s official multiplayer maps and player creations." http://www.pcgamer.com/halo-5-forge-multiplayer-on-pc-is-goi…

With the note that: "you can only join games via Xbox Live friends"

      • +1

In a future update they are adding custom game browser. If you just open the maps in Forge and don't change anything then host death match or ctf or whatever it may as well be a full game :)

  • +2

Call me a cynic, but I smell free Beta testing…

    • +2

The catch is it's not a full featured game it's just the forge mode. There's no competitive multiplayer with ranking up and any sort of progression.

The cynic in me says they are using this to test the waters to see how much of a market there is for Halo 6 on PC (or perhaps it's going to be a Halo 3 remaster on PC) and at the same time collecting performance data to see how well the engine performs on different hardware.

So yes, free beta testing for a possible future release.

    • It's free tightarse :)

  • +3

    "Oooh, free game!"

"35.7GB, are you freaking kidding me?"

  • Is this just a level editor? I can't play halo on my pc right?

    • +2

-PLAY any Forge content created using Halo 5: Forge or Halo 5: Guardians, including original maps and modes originally released by 343 Industries, with up to 16 players via custom matches.

      • I saw that. It confused me thought. I thought it might mean make them in the app, export to the Xbox and then play it.

        • +1

You can create maps and play them in your PC or your Xbox. You can play with up to 16 players by inviting them to your game, a later patch is confirmed to be coming with a custom game server browser.

  • mine keeps saying its not available … oh well!

  • Yeah, I actually thought this was MP (you can set up a custom game though). No 21:9 support in game (haven't mucked around with ini files and I probably won't bother).

Also, like others have said - 36gb? Seriously MS…

It runs alright on my 980TI/5650 setup, but yeah I'd expect something designed for the xbox to do that ;)

Imo unless you really want to try out some of the forge features I'd skip the download

    • +2

They are adding a custom game server browser in a later patch. You can play normal mp by just hosting a game without modifying the map.

  • 35.7 GB?

    Yeah nah mate.

And for a small part of a game no less.

    • I have some data you can borrow..

      • Same, I can chip some in to make a pool to share. Hit 8TB a couple months running, plenty left over though.

        • +1

          OzB Air

        • @nocure: IME, it's not just the data, it's also the time…~36GB is roughly two day's worth of downloading time for me…

        • @nocure:

If Facebook can do it in Africa, we can do it in Aus! Although I imagine a lot of grumpy people around when we have thousands of drones carrying routers connected via Ethernet cable to the ground!

        • +1

@StewBalls: Start it, watch it for a few minutes, forget about it for a few days, it'll be done!

        • @Shaw: Yup, that's how we roll here…reminds me of my old FTP/dialup days! ;)

        • +1

@StewBalls: Ha yea, I still remember getting yelled at because someone wanted to make a phone call. Taking about dial up, Scotty is running it to his basement and hosting OzB there, so it's come a long way over the years as performance seems ok. He sometimes leaves the monthly team meeting to redial to!

Seeing these comments and wondering just how many people have actually seen modern game sizes… most big games are in the 40 to 50gb range.
The forge is awesome no idea why its free

      • Which bit of this is not a whole game, only a small part of one are you not grasping???

        • +2

It's still loading all the textures, sounds, meshes, etc… Halo 5 on XB1 is something around 90GB now.

          and

I'm kinda surprised it's only 35. It's actually a ton of content. Pretty much the whole multiplayer game and an absolute metric (profanity) of pieces to build with in forge. Amazed they're putting it out for free but maybe trying to earn some good will and build up the Halo base on PC for 6.

          and

It's the full map editor plus all developer made maps and custom game options. Combine the likely uncompressed music with it and it's really not surprising.

        • -1

@Putnum: None of which is really relevant to the comment…

        • +2

@StewBalls: All of those comments from Reddit users justify the size of the download.

        • @Putnum: None of them actually make it a full game though, now do they. It it still effectively only a limited component of a game!

You can justify it as much as you like, no matter which way you slice it 36GB for a level editor only seems somewhat excessive to many people.

        • +1

@StewBalls: It's the world we live in. In 2030 someone will look back at this thread and laugh at 36GB being a lot.

        • +1

@Putnum: By 2030 we might finally be hitting 25mbps internet haha cries in corner

        • If you want hd textures, hq audio, essentially the full multiplayer component of a AAA title what do you expect? They dont cut corners.

  • uhhh.. how do we play.. is it lan only?

    • As of right now, you can only join people on your friends list so perhaps OzBargain should start a thread with gamertags or the like.

      • Im up for that, cause i have no "friends" LOL

      • +1

        Try using this - http://www.halolfg.com/

        • +1

Awesome. I remember using something similar for Destiny and Division (which was a terrible game) and with the lacking matchmaking in Halo, I'm sure this will be a handy tool.

        • @ChillBro: There's a few discord groups for finding a match too. Once you add a bunch of people to your friends list you can join their parties through the Xbox app easily just by clicking on them in your friends list while you have Halo 5 forge open (alt+tab to Xbox app) and it will have Join party as an option.

  • Since when are the freeware and free to play games counted as deals? Because there are about 50000 of them released everyday.

I downloaded this overnight yesterday on my very slow connection and went and paused it in the morning to find that when I wanted to resume, it reset the entire progress :/ how is it that this could have happened?

  • keep getting error updating win 10

  • Still not getting win 10 I don't care how much free shit they throw at me.

  • I'm getting stuck on "Choose an account". It's blank with no accounts to choose from.
