Any One Know if This Is a Good Portable Air Conditioner Exelair 4.7kw

It is only stocked at Bing Lee from what i can find. I've seen it today its priced at $599. There's also a charge of $119 for 2 years replacement warranty is this worth it. Is there anything else thats sold in store that is similarly priced else where.

  • Warranty is worthless because ACL means they have to replace or refund.

No idea what aircon you mean, the price is not that special for cheap brand you haven't heard of, not sure about "quality" brands price and whether it's good.

For example I have a 3.2kW portable brand you haven't heard of that i got for $300 delivered (and it's not small or light).

  • Have a look at the Choice website for their reviews: https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/cooling/portable-a…

We bought a Kogan aircon. For the price it does a good job.

    • choice site you need to be a member to find any meaningful info on this, with out it it is just a list of ACs.

    • Which one did you buy from Kogan, salesmen at Bing Lee said most portable air cons are loud, how loud is the Kogan you bought. What features does it have

  • I am a member of Choice and they rate the Kogan aircon up there with the best in-terms of noise, price and efficiency.

They haven't tested the Bing Lee model. Be aware you don't always get a better product by paying more.

+1 Diji1 Australian Consumer Law means they have to replace or refund. Save you $119 for something else.

Some CC also have insurance included but I've never tried to claim on that.

  • Kogan 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (3.5KW, Reverse Cycle) ($400 - delivered): https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-12000-btu-portable-air-co… (rated by choice at 71%) They also rated a $1200 (Dimplex) and $700 Convair at 71%. Top rated (at 77%) was $900 Omega Altise OAPC16.

We have the Kogan in our living room where we watch TV and it is noticeable so we turn up the TV. I would not describe it as quiet but neither is it loud.

It cools a smallish combined living and kitchen room quite well.

Good luck with it. I did the research last year and it was confusing, especially when they start asking about room size, ceiling heights, sunlight, curtains, carpet, building materials, etc, etc, etc…

    • Thanks for the quick replies DMBJ. I'm thinking more of getting the Kogan now I see its on sale as well at $309 not including delivery. I guess the noise will be tolerable as long as it cools the room you are in. I find it confusing when it talks about how big your house/ room is in metres. I really have no idea about price looking at portable air cons in store you think the more expensive ones must be better but it come down to brand and other factors.

      • no problem. Be aware that the $309 price doesn't leave wharehouse until October. It is confusing with the BTUs to consider too. The Kogan does need a window to exit hot air (as do many of these units). We didn't have a suitable window so had to make a unit for our sliding door. You could try ebay. They maybe cheaper and you'll get to test how load they are? Good luck

        • i know i was just chatting to someone on the livechat on kogan. Apparently because its presale the price is cheaper now but you have to wait till october. I have a windows hopefully its suitable with the included kit. Did you have to wait for it to be delivered too from the warehouse.

    • thanks for the info. Just bought the Kogan one during click frenzy.

  • Be aware portable units are no where near as good as box style unit. I find if they blow on you, it's nice, but it will struggle to drop room temp much.

    • what do you mean box style unit like wall or ducted. I know they are not as good but portable units are my only option because I rent.

      • Yes like window/wall mounted box air conditioners. I rent, and have mounted 2 of these in windows (sliding windows), and also have another I put in a sliding door in summer. Our portable one is pretty useless, and I normally don't even bother with it (but I admit our house has poor insulation).

        • are you able show me a link or brand to what you are talking about so i can see if it is suitable.

        • @jamesvre:

          I have 2 of these:

          https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/kelvinator-c165kw-cool-only-b…

They are quite small, but do a good job in medium space. They don't weigh that much, so pretty easy do make a mount of you have a sliding window. Also have one much larger, cools the area so well, but that needed lots more work building a frame to support it.

        • @Gofast

I just posted a question on "how" to mount these box units in a sliding window. Mine all slide side to side, not up & down.

          How did you install yours?
