"A website that sells nothing is reportedly fast overtaking other Australian online retailers by feeding the appetite for bargains among its readers.
OzBargain.com.au is the fastest growing shopping-related website in the nation, having “eclipsed” many other online rivals, according to recent Roy Morgan research.
Almost a million (948,000) Australians aged 14+ visited OzBargain’s website in an average four-week period between June 2015 and June 2016…"

I've already been getting nginex errors last night on page loads. Happened with around 6k online users from memory

It's hosting related problem that we had for the last week. A slow database backend caused the front-end requests to queue up which eventually ran out the file descriptors. Configuration has been updated to prevent that from happening again (running out the file descriptors) but still trying to nail down the problem causing backend slowness.

Ok. Will yell out if I see it again. First time I've seen the issue here.

Also have you tried turning it OFF and then ON?

Also have you tried turning it OFF and then ON?

As a qualified engineer, I always do that first.

        • @scotty: most our back-end issues relate to failed/non optimized queries/indexes or even triggers that bottleneck with growing data. we get a dba to profile it first and work from there assuming the OS level is clear

        • @supnigs: our DB is far from optimised, however the recent issues are likely on the virtualization level. Every now and then Linux kernel would spit dummy with rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks error message — sometimes stalls up to 20 seconds. The latency of the internal network is also a bit hectic last week that causes connection issues to the backend DB. Still trying to iron out the issues.

        • @scotty: oh good luck :) im sure you are aware of all the changes made and will find resolution. just curious is the VM a new thing?

Scott Yang started the site for a very simple reason: “I like cheap stuff.

    The sites new motto😁

members would probably “arc up quite quickly” and “knock back” illegitimate posts.

    Spam hunters😁

Never heard of the New Daily.
    Does that answer the question?

      Does that answer the question?

Pretty much. Not a bump in traffic yesterday. Heck, they didn't even link to OzBargain in their article.

      • chances are next Monday and Tuesday it'll hit…

might be able to see some swell over the weekend?

  • Now the question - whether to monetize the site and sell it off and retire, or stay true to the original ethos and never give up, never give in, never never never?

    • I'm sure Sean Parker will be along soon.

      • Or the douche that raised the price of the aids medication.

      • With a billion dollars? Well that would be tempting…

        • I have faith that you will stay true to your roots and decline any billion dollar offer.
