Any good deals on no fee cards with signup bonus points at the moment?

Hi guys,

I've just cancelled my ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card as the 1st year free was up and wasn't going to pay the $400 annual fee and I was wondering what the best deal is at the moment for a new cards hopefully with a decent number of points when you sign up (ANZ QFF gave me 75k QFF). IT seems that theres a real shortage of 1st year free offers at the moment? When I signed up with ANZ it seemed that nearly every bank was offering first year free but now no one seems to be.

The best deals I've found so far seem to be the AMEX explorer card with the $400 travel credit offsetting the $400 fee, but I'd really prefer not to pay a fee at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

Just signed up and received my Westpac Altitude Black, they have a platinum version (free first year if you are a Westpac customer or you can open a free saver account)
Bonus QFF points too. It's been posted below. Cheers

  • The sign up bonus points referral isn't as generous, but the Amex Qantas Discovery card does not have an annual fee, and it's up to 15,000 bonus points?

  • I actually have some questions round this.

Is it actually possible to signup for credit cards that have an annual fee which is waived for the first year (like the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black), receive the bonus points, spend it and then cancel the card? If so, when can you cancel without being charged for anything? Does this affect your credit score in any way?

I have not taken a credit card yet and I'm keen to do so.

Yes you can cancel, Yes you should not be charged anything for doing so. if you have lots of credit applications in a short period of time then yes this might contribute to a hit on your credit score but if this is a relatively isolated credit check then the impact would be negligible i would have thought.

      • Thanks!

On another note. I filled out a Coles Credit card application for my wife last month when there was a bonus offer on it. She got approved and she received few verification forms that were suppose to be filled out and sent back, which she never did. Will this reflect on her credit score? If she fills out the forms and send it back now, would she still be eligible for that offer (since she was approved during the offer period)?

        • Yes to both questions
