  • Intel recently announced a new m3 chip (in the Kaby Lake series) so probably going to be a new range coming soon. That said, they'll be up around the $1200 price again so this is a pretty good price.

  • Please note that Amazon will cover cost of return shipping for warranty purposes for the 1st year.

My google skills must be lacking today. Got a link?

    • Its always been the case.

Returned over 10 items in the last 5 years with no fuss and received brand new replacements. All return shipping costs refunded from $50 right up to $250.

But they only cover 1st year so if the product had 3 years warranty, they will only honor year 1

All you have to do is contact customer service.

      • How do you return items with batteries? I could not return Chromebook since AusPost refused to take ship electronics with batteries.

    • The only thing I have seen is a comment from a post last week. Some one asked an Amazon rep and was told this.

      • +2

Yeah that's the thing, to promote something like that I'd rather see proof.

        • It might be another one of Amazon's unwritten rules like price matching. Granted that the unwritten pricing matching rule really got unwritten a while back.

        • Alot of people have confirmed this , even i remember TA confirming this with a Amazon Rep in one of his posts last year

          @easternculture:

I've had similar experiences as well. For a bulky item, they've told me to get the item repaired at an authorised agent and later reimbursed me. Repairs ended up costing more than shipping a new one would have cost!

  • Here you go:
    https://m.auspost.com.au/view/cms/dangerous-and-prohibited-i…

    Extract:
What types of lithium batteries can be sent?

Regardless of what domestic or international mail service you use, Australia Post can only carry the following types of lithium batteries:

Lithium ion (rechargeable) - 20 watt-hour per cell or 100 watt-hour per battery
Lithium metal (non-rechargeable) - one gram per cell or two grams per battery

Lithium batteries can only be sent internationally (air or sea), or domestically by air if the battery or cell (maximum of two batteries or four individual cells) are installed in the device and meet all the packaging requirements.

Recalled, damaged or non-conforming cells or batteries are also prohibited from being sent by Australia Post.

    • +4

Amazon don't use Australia Post. They are shipped from USA via DHL/FedEx to a Australian Warehouse. Then its shipped to your address via a courier.

And when you ship to USA for warranty, use DHL or Fedex or any other international courier.

  • Can this run Crysis?

  • I'm interested in one but still unsure if it can load up amiduos, there's literally only 1 link in google thats directed to minimum specs…

Windows is ok but prefer androids simple interface

    • Windows is ok but prefer androids simple interface

That's a waste of the Intel Core M3 processor, and you will not get very good power management as the driver support will be patchy. If you install Android-x86 edition yourself, you will run into a lot of bugs. Sometimes touchscreen related or power related (e.g device not going to sleep, but just rebooting)

You might as well buy a high end Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablet for around $400~500 ish when it releases.

      • Ya, am having trouble deciding between this, the tab s2 or waiting for IFA announcement sometime this week.

But if I can get a 2 in 1 with a bigger screen, better to have it than not.
Windows has better support for drivers and software but Android is more practical for media consumption and browsing.

Feels abit of a waste getting an android only tablet since I already have a phone which basically does the same thing.

        • Android OS was not designed for productivity.

If you're getting this just to watch movies or browse the net, just get a cheaper ARM tablet.

  • Can you get Android on it and run it as Android tablet aswell with such small HDD?

    • You can, just need to download the source and then recompile the kernel to suit the hardware.

As for free space, you probably won't need more than 8GB, which I think should be the minimum for Android. Might need to use GRUB as bootloader.

  • Thanks to TB for the find

    Pleasure

  • This is a great deal. Just trying to figure out of its worth waiting for the next iteration of 2in1s or to jump on it.

    • +1

I decided on waiting for a more powerful one that could play a wider range of games, not a powerhouse gaming tablet, but powerful enough to play 50% of the games on medium or more RAM to emulate Android no problem.

Otherwise a great price for early birds :)
Prices would only get lower in regards to these 1 yr life span tablets~

      • should be looking at the ULV cpus, not the core-M products. Otherwise theres still the vaio Z canvas which uses a desktop cpu and hd graphics… waay ahead of the tablets using portable grade cpus

        • looked up "ULV Cpu touch screen" and literally nothign came up except some alibaba chinese ones… searched Vaio Z canvas and jaws dropped at "$2000 USD".

          Vaio Z flip still $2000AUD+

        • @Zeral: should've made it more clear lol. Basically ultra low voltage CPUs are the chips targeted for tablets and ultra books. Any processor with U on it is ulv, like the surface pros. It's gonna take a lot of generations before 2 in 1s will compete with the canvas. It's literally a comparison between a tablet and a desktop.

          Desktop > laptop (HQ) > Ulv (U) > core m > atom

Would this be a better buy? (once the deal is active) http://groupbuy.ebay.com.au/deal?itemId=232065927552

    • Would also be interested in an answer…

    • Looks like a better choice on paper at least. M5 CPU, local vendor, Active Pen are just the big ones I noticed.

    • It's cheaper on Amazon, about A$675 delivered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GF54G8/ref=ox_sc_act_t…

Is this a good price to buy? I am looking to buy a Surface Pro alike for my son's school but he will only need it in Feb 2017.

      • Damn that's really cheap. Reviews seem to be okay but not great but for this price surely it's the most bang for your buck right?

I'm really tempted to pull the trigger but a bit unsure why no one bought the eBay group buy deal.

    • An interesting question. I am typing this now on a Miix 700 LTE and love it, it's my daily driver. It's great to have normal USB ports and be able to use them while charging without hubs etc. If you are wanting a work convertible, I wouldn't hesitate recommending the Mixx, especially with LTE. And, I did a lot of comparison to the Tab Pro S before buying. The Miix pen isn't great, but I don't need it, so this wasn't a consideration. However…

I've been debating buying an iPad Pro, or waiting to see what the Tab S3 is like. I want a nice light tablet with a great screen for general browsing, e-mail, YouTube etc on the couch & bed. At this price, the Tab Pro S might be a good alternative, just a bit heavier than 9.7" tablets, but such a great OLED display. Hmm…

  • If your budget doesn't stretch much farther than $1000 then this is a great deal for a 2-in-1.

If however you can spend $2000, then it is best to wait. For my own personal use case, I am looking for something to replace a 4700mq / 8GB / 768GB SSD / 860m laptop.

I know that I need minimum 8GB of RAM. This is not negotiable. Perhaps even 16GB.

For a geek this processor might be a bit slow, I know for what I use my computer for, I don't do a lot of encoding but there are times when I need to do some heavy work. I think I really need a new i7-7500U to make me happy and not feel a slowdown from my current machine.

If you plan to be watching 4K video, the new Kaby Lake 7th Gen is great at decoding without using a lot of CPU cycles or juice. Somewhere along the times of 2.6x the video playing length of the last generation and using 4% CPU instead of 50%. So if you are going to be watching a lot of video on flights or using it as a multimedia device to play 4K then this could be important.

Also, it doesn't have thunderbolt 3, so you can't do cool things like plug in an external graphics card.

Asus has a Transformer 3 coming out with Kaby Lake M3, and the Transformer 3 Pro coming out with the older i7-6500U, so I might just keep waiting a few more months to see some new 2-in-1s because Intel says there will be 100 devices by the end of the year.

  • Does it include the keyboard cover?

  • -1

I think this thing only has one USB slot and it's a type C which is also the charging port, so that might be an issue if you want to be charging while using USB. And the fact that it's Type C and I don't have Type C devices.

Also, according to Amazon's page its network only supports: 802.11abg

I sincerely hope that's a mistake. Not even N standard is supported? In 2016? UPDATE: It's incorrect. Supports AC.

Another potential dealbreaker is that the screen dims itself after a minute or so of inactivity to prolong the OLED screen's life. This cannot be disabled. And watching a youtube or flash video is considered 'inactivity'.

    Lastly, no SD card support.

    • Another potential dealbreaker is that the screen dims itself after a minute or so of inactivity to prolong the OLED screen's life. This cannot be disabled.

That is incorrect. You can increase it to 10 minutes in Galaxy Settings. It also has the 'smart stay' feature from their phones that checks for your face periodically. The screen will not dim if your face is detected.

      • Hmm.. that's not so bad then.

I got that info from a review: http://www.pcworld.com/article/3047160/tablet-pc/samsung-gal…

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows

OLEDs do have a downside: They can degrade over time. Therefore, some manufacturers attempt to slow this effect in their displays. For example, Dell’s 4K Ultra HD OLED desktop panel has a sensor that switches off the monitor when you’re not sitting in front of it, in order to reduce wear and tear on the diodes.

Samsung has also taken steps to protect the Galaxy TabPro S’s screen, using a far more annoying approach. The screen dims significantly after one minute of inactivity—and you can’t override the feature. The dimming is selective, too. The screen’s brightness faded during my tests of graphics, RAM, and memory performance, but not when I fired up a video in Windows 10’s media player or ran 3DMark. It also didn't dim when I was actively using a browser window, but when a flash or HTML5 animation is running in the background, it’ll get darker.

Samsung didn’t officially confirm that this dimming is related to OLED preservation, but I doubt it’s a power-saving issue, as the Galaxy TabPro S dims the screen whether on battery or plugged in. Regardless of the intent behind the feature, it’s annoying and a potential deal breaker for some. Not having control over it (at least not that I could find) is very frustrating.

For me there's still too many cons to the device to impulse buy it. I hope the next gen S2 fixes some of them. I want expandable memory, and more CPU configurations than M3.

  • Can anyone let me know what advance of Samsung pro, comparing Lenovo miix 700? Thanks

I ordered a Miix 700, because it seems cheaper and beautiful based on my view. Is there any big shortcoming of lenovo Miix 700 I missing?

    • OLED display. Case is included. Not sure with Mix.
