Parking Fine (Error) at Melbourne Airport Maccas

Hi OzBargainers,

My dad got a parking ticket recently at Melbourne airport maccas and was wondering how to proceed. What happened was that he went out of the spot after 30 minutes, exited the carpark and reparked into a new spot but the inspector believed that he was in the same spot although he wasn't.

He hasn't paid the fine and has now got a charge sheet and summon asking him to pay the fine or contest to court.

The inspector even was bold enough to say that my dad drove off while he was writing the fine when he said it was fine for my dad to drive off.

How should he proceed?

parking time limits are not renewed when you move the vehicle to another spot within the same parking zone.

but , who is the parking fine with ? council or a private company ? this would change how you would handle the issue ( if you want to try get out of it )

    • Australia Pacific airports (Melbourne) Pty ltd

  • I think you need to move the car out of the parking area

Wow just as I thought the cost of Maccas couldn't get more expensive

How do you even comprehend that your dad is not guilty? The whole point of the parking fine is to stop a-holes like your old man from using the carpark to pick people up at the airport. He has options. He can pay for short term parking at the designated airport car parks, he can drive around the back of the airport to the viewing carpark, or he can do laps around the block till the pick up arrives. Your sense of entitlement is astounding; you actually think that Mcdonalds should build and maintain a carpark for your convenience.

    • 10000% agreed. Probably didn't even buy anything from BP or Macca's.

He did buy brekky from maccas prior to picking up friend from airport, so I think he meets that part of the requirements

        • Sure he did. 2 years prior. At some point, somewhere.

Why the heck was he in Maccas? All he needs to do in Melbourne is wait at the pickup area. If he has to he can easily go around the block a couple of times.

Going out of a spot and moving to a new spot (even if you exit the car park) doesn't mean you get a extra 30 minutes free!!

  • You should contest it, OP. Thornton is right, and I want to see how your logic will hold up in court. Do be sure to report back!

  • Reminds me of the good old days when the parking guy will use a piece of chalk and make a marking on your wheel or the inside of the body of the car at the wheel area. So even when you move spots, they will still try to find the chalk mark and proceed to give you a fine.

  • Fake a breakdown next time

This is a bargain website not legal aid.

If you disagree with the comments and think your dad is innocent then fight it in court. We are not here to provide a defense brief for your dad to use in court.

  • The conditions on a shopping centre parking near my home say 3 hrs per day regardless of how many times you enter & exit. Maybe it was the same in Maccas.
You could have waited in the wait zone for a few dollars.

  • OP has found his answer. Thread now closed.
