From Sydney to Queensland . I posted it on 25 August
I did the same a week and half ago.
I was sending back some watch straps to a seller off eBay, as it was pretty low quality at a high price, and he offered a full refund.Postage would accept it as a letter.
Transferred it as a "Package".
Charged me $7 and change, instead of a dollar or less. Not what I would call satisfying especially when postage is so much cheaper in other first-world countries.
Hopefully, paypal covered your return postage costs.
No they didn't, but sometimes its better to forget about a $7 loss and move on.
You gotta remember, your time spent chasing such things are worth more than that.(then again, it's the principle damn it, lol)
@Kangal: Here have a look at this, might help. https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns
@hashtagbargain:
Cheers!
If I ever return something I just put back in original packing and return to sender.
That's a good idea.
But that would mean keeping a whole lot of rubbish for a good chunk of time.
It has only been 7 day. Wait another few days before you start worrying.
They will probably charge the receiver, but he/she can reject the mail, and it will be returned to you. (And the post office will charge you for this.)If your guess is wrong, and your padded bag is less than 20mm, then $2 postage is fine.
If your guess is correct, and your padded bag is more than 20mm, I am sure the recipient will NOT pay for postage (since postage will cost $7.45 + $1.50 (admin fee) - $2 (what you paid so far) = $6.95)i've received prepaid envelopes thicker than 20mm.
it could still make it. wait.If your return address is on the back, Australia Post will deliver as normal and send you a bill for the correct postage.
This is what happened to me a while ago.
Then what happened,They deliver it or not?
Same happened for me, they deliver it and send you a bill for difference. If you call them and speak very nicely to them you get a 50/50 they will cancel it, just say your packing probably shifted. If they don't cancel the bill ring later and ask for someone else until you get someone who will.
Oh, I mean they delivered then sent me a bill for the extra postage plus administration fee ($1.5 from my memory).
It is my first post so I am worried about that.
I didn't write return address .
Australia post charge too much . If my item is just 25 grams and its price is $4 who will give me postage of $8.50.Exactly. Which is why you should check postage price before sending it out.
Because postage prices do not make sense. (Also why people do not post cheap stuff, unless you live in China, where postage is cheap.)Yep, I do the same if it's close.
$4 item better lost in mail then a $7 bill.
I frequently send express stuff through eBay which test this limit (bubble wrapped ram in an envelope)
To date AusPost haven't cared.
Might be cause I paid for express but i reckon as long as it's not obscenely fat you'll be fine.
If return address was written on the padded bag then AusPost will simply send you an Under Postage bill of the difference between a small parcel ($7.45) and domestic large letter ($2) plus admin fee ($1.50) = $6.95.
I got that every now and then trying to post OzBargain T-shirts in C4/A4 large envelopes ($3). I was pretty sure the size sits under the limit (260 x 360 x 20mm) however recently out of every 5 T-shirts I post, I'll get one under postage bill from AusPost :(
Thanks for the shirt btw… ;)
Did you remember to sign the security declaration on the envelope? Apparently it can lengthen the delivery time if you didn't.
I signed that security declaration
Last time I posted 600 gram parcel in a 500 gram parcel post bag. Auspost delivered it, but sent me a warning letter.
what did they write and how did they send the warming letter to you.
Just got a letter in the mail. It said that the parcel was over 500grams and next time they will not delivery it.
They are not strict this year, i think it is because they are not making profit.
I would rather return the satchel to me instead of charging me the extra amount + admin fee.
@LoveBargain15: I find it hard to understand how they can't make a profit, while charging double what a courier charges.
It is because their letter service need to cover 99%(may be 100%) of Australia population as they are government agent which you paid $1 or $2 and it cost a fortune to drive to middle of no where to deliver it.
On the other hand courier does not like B2C, they mostly do B2B and they are at most covering 90%~95% of Australia population, also they do only delivery satchels which are much high price then letter.
@LoveBargain15: they actually did a full turn around last financial year and got it in the green by a fair bit
I find it hard to understand how they can't make a profit,
it's because of the cso.
while charging double what a courier charges.
ap's shipping rate is about the same as any carrier operating in oz. their flatrate are in fact cheaper than most.
they actually did a full turn around last financial year and got it in the green by a fair bit
$36m out of $6b is sad.
Australia post office post mails on time or they always late?
Budget cuts. Late
They have a hydraulic press to squash all non-compliant bags to 20mm so that they can stack exactly 100 in a 200cm high truck
Just kidding.
Hydraulic press is too expensive, they just get top management to sit on the letters, since that's all they do. Multitask!
Pretty sure they charge the receiver if its over the specified dimensions. Plus since its not registered theres not really any way to track it. Where did you send it to/from?
