Can anyone help to choose between Samsung UA65KS9000W and LG 65UH950T. The LG has 3D which I want, but I've heard only good things about Samsung warranties. Also, the Samsung has 4 HDMI ports against LG's 3.

    • +1

I am set on getting an LG, but that's mainly down to the WebOS3 UI and Wii like controller. It also supports both HDR standards, not sure about the Samsung. Here's a review on the LG http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/pl…

      • I will probably end up with the smaller 55UH950T, 65" just too big. While that's a great price for the 65" the 55" is listed at $2995 on TGG so still some saving there.

    • +4

Spend the extra and get an OLED. Worth paying the extra for the much better quality of picture. Check them out side by side for proof.

      • I was thinking of that but the OLED doesn't have 3D. How is LG on warranties etc? DO I need to get extended or am I covered under Australian Consumer Laws?

        • If you want 3d definitely do not get a curved screen. The sweet spot is very small allowing only one carefully positioned person to see the 3d.

        • @rifter:
I have a curved OLED and no issues with multiple people watching 3D.

The C6 is better value than the B6 with 3D and 10ms less input lag. The curve is really quite subtle compared to Samsung's.

        • +3

Honestly can't believe people want 3D. Never was good, and never will be (on a tv that is)

        • +5

@OnlinePred: Have to agree, it was dead before it arrived & having to wear glasses is pretty crap

        • +1

@OnlinePred: its not even that good at the cinema a lot of directors like Tarintino ans Nolan hate it.

      • Not always, i have a brightly lit room and the 55" LG OLED i bought i had to return due to lack of brightness. They are awesome in a dark room with perfect 4K source material (esp with lots of black content)

But during the daytime with FTA TV it was WAY worse than the 4 year old Samsung 1080 LED.

If you have a very bright room you need to wait a bit for OLED. LED can be up to 5x brighter.

        • +2

It's the whole plasma/lcd thing again. People think brighter is better. It's only the case in bright environments. If you watch movies at night, then OLED. If you primarily watch stuff during the day, then get a old LCD. Honestly though the new OLEDS are super bright so not sure what the go is.

    • I have the 65UH950T. Bought it 2 months ago for $4495 😞😞😞 I feel sick seeing the price drop so quickly.

The good things about it are the 3D. It can do 4K 60Hz 3D if you have a suitably equipped PC - note that other 4K 3D TVs like Sony and Panasonic will only do 1080p 3D. HOWEVER last I tried something is very off with it; my previous 42" LG 3D was fine but on this one I couldn't get the eye seperation to a point that didn't immediately give me headaches. I've since moved the TV and haven't tried again but I will. Bring some glasses and try it out in store at the right distance to be sure. There are settings on the remote also.

The TV itself is okay but has very ugly DSE (dirty screen effect visible on horizontal sky panning). It's edge lit which sucks but most of this generation are. Netflix 4K HDR works on it but you'll need a fast internet connection to make it pretty.

The 4K deep colour / 10 bit colour modes have handshaking problems with PCs (black screen after reboots). These completely disappeared after putting it through a new 4K pioneer amp.

I'm being picky though. It's an awesome upgrade from pretty much any edge lit 1080p TV. From non edge lit you might be very unhappy.

At the time their OLED didn't do Dolby Vision and were stuck on webOS 2 instead of webOS 3. If that changes and you can swing the price differential then do it.

  • +12

I have 3d and never use it. Seems like a waste to me.

  • UHD is finally becoming the norm. I'm so excited!

    • +4

I can't imagine how much you'll pee your pants when the content actually catches up to the devices!

      • Gaming is basically there, movies you can download, FTA will never be there exce0t for Tokyo 2020.

        • +3

          movies you can download

Most of Australia cannot do that and furthermore our dumbshit PM thinks 12mbit is all anyone could ever need so are they really going to be able to soon? (But still worth it for games)

        • Maybe. Gaming for the XBONES maybe and possibly Neo soon.

Not so much for PCs. They support 4K and sometimes the 10 bit colour however there's no PC level HDR 2020 colour gamut support yet. It's a super key ingredient to the awesome demos you see in store.

        • if the networks are as slow offering 4k as Hd then it will be 10 years till all channels are 4k…

  • +1

I just paid 3196 for the 70" version yest6and its waiting to be picked up. Can I cancel and get this new price or can goodguys refund the difference. I dont want store credit

    • i reckon u could if u hadn't picked it up yet… TGG offered refund on my washing machine before i picked up

      • +2

        I got the refund

  • Looking at the 75inchers. However neither the LG 75UH656T nor Sony KD75X8500D has any "advanced" features like ColourPrime/quantum dots or Dolby vision. Any one has bought LG 75UH656T or Sony KD75X8500D? Any comments?

  • How come the 70 is cheaper than 65?

  • +1

I'm waiting for the day when 75 inch TV is under 2000.

Will brighten up my living room surely.

    • Likely won't happen for 4k TVs until 8K is out in a few years or if buying a less big brand like Hisense or something.

      • I think FHD is also ok… I won't sit near to notice the pixels…
Or is it not worth it?

        • If you want to future proof your TV You need one with at least UHD HDR because content is starting to come out fast along with 4k Blu-ray players, if you only watch FTA TV Then a FHD Would be fine

        • @TRENT86: it's impossible to future proof a TV. My last 40" FHD LCD tv was outdated in just 2 year by LED, then 2-3 years later UHD.

I'm not rich, I am after an outdated huge TV simple because Big TV stands out in the living room, even if the picture is crap.

It will be off most of the time anyway.
And the first thing my mate ask of a TV is how big is it? Not how fast is the refresh rate, or what is the energy rating, or resolution or whatever.

But brand is important though. Samsung or Sony only.

        • +1

@fm: Go with the Sony kdl65w850c model that should be enough for you and has been $1500 before :)

        • @TRENT86:
+1 waiting on this one too! Haven't seen any recent deals though…

  • where do you enter the code on website ?

    • checkout screen - its a link saying "promotion code" or something like that

  • +1

HN have the entry level OLED cheap today… $2399.00

60 months interest free if that's your thing.

Older model and only FHD but still amazing image quality for the money. Heaps of stock it seems.

    • Lel, I can't believe people enter into a 5 year payment agreement for a device such as a TV.

That should be a hint that you ought to be spending money elsewhere. Of course not all people use the 5 years and some pay it off of course but then there's also the apparent reality that some people actually don't pay it off after 5 years as well. I wonder how many people are paying off a TV after 5 years and getting whacked with interest as well?

      • lots of people pay the minimum that GE(or whoever owns it now) and other providers list, this doesn't pay off the full amount in 5 years or whatever the term is they also bank on the fact that you buy multiple items on various end dates they apply whatever you pay (the minimum over the multiple items) and if you pay over the minimum that gets applied to the one ending soonest, as you can see this would be a lot to manage for the average jo which is what they bank on… the monthly fee means that its only useful for large purchases and for multiple purchases… in the end the end user needs to track and do their own maths on what the best option is…

i use it but i manage it .. when you move from a flat to a house and you have to furnish it trust me after purchasing a house you dont have the money lying around and interest free (with some haggling and shopping around) turns out not to be a bad option… but like i said you have to manage it closely :)

      • Even if you pay it off within the time period, there would be monthly account fees and other charges, there always is these days.

    • Was keeping eye on this from past one year and waiting it to get reduced <$2000. will grab once its on sale

  • Any reviews on this one? LG OLED65B6T 65" OLED UHD Smart TV $5036

I can't seem to find much and I have money burning a hole in my pocket.

  • Oh man, I've been eyeing up the 65UH950T too….

    • I have one. See my other comments in the thread.

  • I ended up getting a refund. Would you go a 70" or pay 700 extra and get smaller 65 but with dolby. How long does the viucher code last and how can I get 25 store voucher

    • Personally I would go for the 65", purely for Dolby vision. You're also getting 3D, a better specs/panel/model and a nicer looking TV.

  • -4

    Wow.. awesome.
Too bad TVs are not in fashion.
People mostly use tablets and phones for viewing media now

    • +3

I don't know about you, but I hate watching media on a smartphone or tablet.

    • +3

No you do not represent the norm: most people spend more time in front of the TV screen than any other screen including phones and tablets. Size matters almost more than anything else when it comes to screens.

  • 70" UHD with all the bells and whistles at <2k please. I'll be waiting

Never heard of Dolby Vision - is it useful and worth the premium?

    Screen Resolution: 3,840 x 2,160 Ultra High Definition - is this 4k?

    • Why don't you google for some reviews and then look at avsforum.

      And yes it is.

  • Was going to buy the 65uh950T ytd.
    Lucky jb didn't price match at $4488 -20% = $3590.4

Gonna go to good guys today to buy it with 6% off gc. Works out to be $3202 delivered.

And may potentially save another $25 if they accept the digital catalogue voucher ;)

    • where was the 6% off gc?

      • +1

Work benefit. 6% good guys gc. Already bought $3.4k worth at 6% off ready to go

        • should have done pickup :) - extra $50 voucher?

        • +1

          @blehgg:
I know.. but cbf picking it up. Paying $50 for delivery and foregoing the $50 credit for click and collect? Still good price though

  • Is the Sony any good? It's at the price point I'm willing to pay for a 65 just have been out of the loop with TV's lately and haven't really done my research.

Also with the android tv can you download any apps you normally could on your phone? For example tenplay, sbs , etc. None of those have chromecast support, so if you can use those apps on this tv it will go down well with the wife ☺️

  • The 65UH770T is also worth a look if you can get a deal on it like JBHIFI one day special a few months ago for $2800. Incredible panel for the price. It has HDR and Dolby Vision inbuilt, but it does not have 3D.

  • The LG UH950T is now $3190.40 after 20% off
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-65-inches164cm-uhd-led-lcd…

    • Cheers m8, was actually waiting for them to Match Jb prices, but didn't think they would :)

    • Insaneeeee

    • Wth is their problem, ordered yesterday, cancelled in the morning and reordered. Now another price reduction, maybe I should have hold till the end of promotion.

    • So what are the advantages of this over the Sony KD65X8500D? Both are IPS displays, just trying to work out if I should be spending more for the LG

  • be careful if you are buying the giftcards. Website wont allow more than 2x$500. I learned that in a hard way. Now i have $2000 worth of vouchers which i cant use :(

    • Maybe try instore?

      • no they wont give you the 20% off. I tried two stores.

        • Hahaha same here. I called 2 stores. Got denied.

Pulled the trigger online. Bought with 2 gc.

          Refunded remaining gc no probs

Bit silly they only take 2gc

        • @chew_chew:
Where are you buying the GCs from? As AGL rewards and blueys seem to say it takes 5 days to process.

        • @sw0rdy:
          Reward gateway through work.
Instant code for online or instore redemption.

But can only use Max 2 gc on hood guys website

  • This is a really good deal guys, I bought the LG OLED65B6T 65" OLED UHD Smart TV $5036 for 6.2k 2 month ago at JB HIFI (got them to match Goodguys at the time). It's a phenomenal T.V and it was really worth the money, but right now you can get it for 1k cheaper! I wish there is a way to return my T.V and get it through this deal lol.

  • I have now cancelled twice and I'm in store waiting for a confirmation to pick up

  • Ugh, I think LG OLED65 is just too big for my lounge. I am coming from a 40 inch and I am only sitting 3m away.

If this discount was on the 55OLED I'd have one.

    Damn discount restrictions.

    • Do you live in NSW?

      • No, Vic.

        • Bugger cause Bing Lee have the 55" cheap

  • Any reviews on the LG 70" 70UH635T?

I am not having much luck on Google

    • Anyone know what the LG 70" 70UH635T is known as overseas so i can research it?

  • Is it worth buying the 5 year warranty for 360 from gg for the 70" lg tv

    • That is purely your decision. But do not forget you are covered under Australian Consumer Law.

      • Yeah ok but say it dies after 4 years are we entitled for a fix. PS the TV my old mans replacing is a 50" Pioneer plasma made in 2007 and still going strong

        • If a 4k tv dies after 4 years. Yes. As prople would expect to use such an expensive tv for longer. I would advise you to go through ACL (summary). That way you will be more aware of your rights.

        • @Rashed:

My old mans paranoid I tried to explain this to him but he kept firing me questions back. I wish the law would be more clear. For example good guys says if you dont get warranty from us you have to deal with LG the ACL says they cannot send uou to the manufacturer

        • @eneloop: not true, you can go to retailer to request a fix, not only that if they have to take the tv (from your house to the repair centre), they have to do it at their own expenses, and can not ask you to pay. Most sales rep earn commission on extended warrenty and therefore, push it. They will not tell you your rights under ACL.

  • I am disappointed that you can't download Skype on these new TV's. Microsoft won't allow it. Any recommendations to get around it? I brought the Sony KD65X8500D instore ; I just showed them the email I received .

    • Pain isn't it? Here's the options that I can see:

      • Xbox One with Kinect.
      • Get a Chromecast and Skype with your phone/tablet.
      • Hook up a Laptop/PC to your TV (HTPC?).
  • Should i be getting excited about the KD75X8500D coming in at $4556…? it sure is the best price out there thus far

  • Is there a $50 voucher when I pick up in store

    • Yeah mate there is, i just confirmed with my local store.

    • The $50 store credit should be sent to you through your email addy but yes you will only get the credit if you c&c not if you get delivery

  • what about the E6 55 ?

  • thx op, been looking for a new one for a while. got the 65" OLED, got JB to price match and got some discounts on the JB gift cards using ameego.

  • Anyone able to post a receipt for the $5036 Lg oleds? Maybe Jb or TGG will price match with receipt as proof?
