Back a while ago, I used to be on a (now grandfathered) Telstra prepaid data plan where I could recharge for $150-180 for 365 days, with included an data allowance.
The best bit about this plan was that the included credit (ie, the $150-180 I had already paid) could be used for international roaming data (albeit charged at a higher rate $/MB), which really meant that I was happy to recharge once a year to have data (without bill shock) to have data while overseas on holidays.
The higher rate never bothered me as I never used the entire included allowance anyway.
Unfortunately, I no longer have this SIM on this now grandfathered option. Telstra's new prepaid data plans only allow the credit to be used in Australia.
Is anyone aware of any similar options still available?

The current Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband offer still has PAYG data, albeit at very high rates.

$2/MB for use in Australia and $3/MB for use overseas; billed per KB. However, they do have International Browse Plus Packs available (see: https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/mobile-broadband/prepai…)
$29/100MB, $85/300MB or $160/600MB (all with 30 day expiry). Still expensive, but I guess they are a good option for situations like multiple short stopovers during international travel.
These options are paid for using your Recharge Credit (e.g. purchasing a $50 pass gives 5GB/365 days [for AU use] and $50 Recharge Credit). Hopefully they don't get rid of this credit like they did on the new Pre-Paid Plus mobile phone offer!
