My partner's birthday is coming up (23rd October) and he's expressed interest in getting into proper Wet Shaving. I've been scouring the /r/wicked_edge subreddit and have settled on getting him a good quality DE razor. I'm looking preferably for a 'starter kit' that has all the essentials (razor, blades, brush & cream) but if it works out cheaper could just buy all these individually. A brush/stand set would be nice, too.
I've seen a few Fathers Day promos but doesn't look like any of them offer any significant value, but if there's any time-specific deals I'm happy to buy now and put it away for a few months. Also have noticed that some international companies (i.e. www.shaving.ie) probably work out cheaper than buying from an Australian store, so do want to factor in postage times.
So far the best option I've found has been THIS kit from Mens Biz. I swore shaving.ie had a similar kit on their website but can only find 'kits' of a brush+stand now.
Budget is <$200 but will go over if it's worth putting the extra $$$ in.

I can say I have had very positive experiences from both. The razor blades I ordered from Shaving.ie arrived in less than a week from ordering!
I have a Merkur razor (Slant bar, not the same as in that kit) and it is great. I have also tried all the razor blades and the shaving soap and can recommend. I prefer the Personna blades, but blades are really a preference thing.
I would say this kit is a great choice. Can't go wrong with that combo. The delux kit has a better soap and brush, but you would need to buy a blades sampler pack ($17.50) as well if you went that way. I think its best to start with the standard kit, and upgrade at a later time once you have more of a feel for the wet shave.
