Online surveys

Has anyone signed up and participated in online surveys? Being a student I could always do with a bit more money but I'm a little skeptical because I receive a fair bit of spam already.

What good ones are there? I came across this site from another forum (Rewards Central I think??) http://surveycomparison.blogspot.com/. Is it real? Can you really make a lot of money from them?

Has anyone signed up? To me it just seems too good to be true…

  • http://www.rewardscentral.com.au/ is real and legit, as is their sister site http://myopinions.com.au/. They have been running for over 10 years. (collectively, they used to be called EmailCash)

They only way to make a lot of money from them is to buy a lot of books, flowers etc from their partner merchants. (you can get a couple of points for each dollar you spend).

  • Valued Opinions is the best one I've seen.
Get paid between $1 and $3.50 per survey completed.
You can only get paid when your total reaches $20 and then in gift cards.
The only problem I've seen is trying to be accepted by being part of the demographic that they really want…

i think you're best bet is to get a parttime job and/or register with a market research company. These sort of survey sites are not worth time/money because people can do them at their comp = heaps of people willing to do them = less money

  • Your voice is a good one. But it's only good for a little more money on the side to help with grocery and the likes, not a reliable source of income.

    • I like it how you snuck your referral ID in there :)

In my opinion rewardscentral is not what you want to join up to with expectations of earning some part time money.
You will gather a few points here and there from their email spam (that you agree to) but it is not going to give you the money you are after.

You could try to increase your points by joining forum/blog/website's and spam your referral link at every opportunity like the jd2040 example.
But people need to sign up before you will get anything from it.

You will make more money with the savings you can find on sites like OzBargain than you will on a site such as rewardscentral or myopinions.

    Davo1111 offers better advice.

If you sign up you will get rewards. It might take a while or a few months but eventually you will get rewards. You can choose your rewards as well.

    • Ha yeah… I've been with RewardsCentral for two years now and I just have enough points for a $100 cheque. The only way to get lots of points with them is by shopping online with their partners, which sohould be a little bit easier now that DickSmith is one of their partners. But yeah even after two years and flogging about 1k on Ebay I only manged to get enough points for a $100 cheque. Don't expect money to fall from the sky by joining these guys.

If you join rewardscentral then you join myopinions as well and you link both accounts together then you get more points from surveys.

  • sure you get rewards but it depends on how many surveys you actually get and then complete. Its not really enough to live on, but could be a little bit extra to help now and then. I've been a member for rewardscentral and my opinion for several years now (prob 3-5 yrs)….prob only redeemed 200 bucks in that time.

The other one that seems ok is pureprofile. www.pureprofile.com.au
or if you feel generous my referral link is below :p (don't think i've ever referred anyone before)…if you have lots of friends who want referrals, that is prob better money for all of them than the surveys but again limited cos your friends acutally have to sign up and be active! I've been a member for 2-3 years and probably redeemed $200 plus got some products etc to try.
referrer=1350659 (god does that mean the number of people who are members???)

I joined a stack of others, but stopped using them because they either had crap rewards for the surveys or you went into prize draws (waste of your time). Market research does pay heaps better but again not that frequent.
Moneybackco (see link on this website) also if you buy stuff online, the cash back is better than nothing.
also www.wdyt.com.au - again you agree to emails that you click on and the points add up to rewards. Slow but minimal effort. (i've prob received $80 in gift cards for myer/kmart etc over a few years)

  • Just also note that a lot of these opinion surveys will have a quota (e.g. first 200 who respond) and so despite receiving a lot of spam asking you to complete many surveys, if you aren't within their cap when you respond you won't be able to participate as is the case quite often. They can take a while to complete, usually take about 15 - 20 mins for each, and are essentially the same as receiving cold calls for surveys from call centres representing organisations for customer evaluation or some sort of market research.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of it and would suggest signing up with other market research groups who often need 'guinea pigs' to taste test or attend a specific date and will pay you $20 to $50 for your participation of one or two hours. They DO come less often but if you're quick to respond you have more chance of making some side cash than these online surveys.

If you google Lockerz, that's also a highly recommended one.

  • Out of all the survey sites, I'd definitely recommend pureprofile and valued opinions. You're never going to get tons of cash from them, but I've probably got a few hundred dollars in cash/vouchers from the both of them over the past couple of years.

  • It took me about a year to make $25 on pureprofile. :S In retrospect t's not really worth the time involved. There are much more efficient ways of making money. :S

  • I have been with Valued Opinions for about 1.5 years now, made about $140. Do the surveys whenever I'm in lectures nd stuff. They are legit, your choice of reward ranges from coles, sanity, hoyts etc.
