Best budget China tour company?

With Groupon, Kogan and every site these days offering to resell them, wondering if anyone has had a experience?
Seen a few have crazy conditions and extra fee's. One for example wanted 500 extra since I would leave from Adelaide then 500 more if I wanted to stay beyond the 9 days.
With $700-900 flights popping up every month, seems very insane.

Looking at 7-9 days tour then spend a week chilling out in a smaller city with lots of day trips like Wuhan (airbnb shows 40 bucks a night for a full apartment).

    And don't forget the famous Chinese government sponsored shopping tour, you just pay $99 for a week accommodation, 3x meals a day and transportation. You need to buy flight by yourself, and some tips money.

    I would recommend Wendy Wu. You can find a tour with them that includes everything (tour itself, flights, visa etc). Specialise in Asia, including China.

    One tip, in China you absolutely get what you paid for. I lived in China for 2 years with the missus and learned all about 'shopping' tours. What you save in cash, you spend in wasted time. I've seen tours where up to 80% of the time, you will spend shopping in their "recommended" tourist shops. Recommended basically means, shops that give the tour operators a kick back. Most horrendous ones I've heard would lock you into a shop and/or refuse to leave until everyone has bought something / spent X amount of cash. If you are using your leave for a trip to China, just to save some cash, would you want to be just carted around shop to shop?

      Yes I was looking at those Beijing day tours for that reason (also mentioned Wuhan), I did a contiki years ago and don't really want the same experience.
      I honestly want to go to meaningful places, not spend 7 days on a bus and see 5 interesting places.
