Please remove your shift and caps lock keys.

  • DD4 have this deal for a headset and controller for AU$8.85 delivered

can't comment on quality as I' waiting on mine to arrive.

but it comes with a controller and headset for that price- pretty cheap. - how well it will work is another matter.

I used my sister in laws headset a week ago. she's in film production and her company has made a few VR short films. the headset (didn't get the name) was apparently one of the better ones to buy for <$150. it was pretty impressive

must looks terrible on such a low resolution screen so close to yours eyes

    • Depends on your device but many mobile phones are actually higher res than Rift or Vive. Although to be clear you aren't going to get a great VR experience with a phone atm.

Yeah but not the iPhone. Unless he has an iPhone Plus, in which case it's the same resolution as a Rift or Vive, but will full RGB subpixels, so far more detail. The 4.7" iPhone however is only 750p and it's basically unusable for VR.

        • Without a OLED screen phones are not very suitable for VR due to image persistence (smearing)

    • I've tried VR at a store with an iPhone… Amazing.

  • Well I don't have an iPhone but after research cheap Google Cardboard options I bought the BoboVR Z4 (also sold as the Virtoba X5) and the Baofeng Mojing XD. Presumably these will work in roughly the same way: you download the google cardboard app from itunes and scan your HMD settings QR code and it's setup.

You can ignore the Baofeng Mojing XD unless you specifically want a HMD just for a virtual screen. It has a very low FOV (field of view) of 60 degrees.

The BoboVR Z4 comes in a version with and without builtin headphones: I bought the headphone model and I find the sound fine however I only bought it because I couldn't see how my headphones would fit on it. Ear bud/IEM may work better but the strap goes across the ears.

Paid $25 for the Baofeng Mojing XD (ebay 20% code) and $36 from memory for the BoboVR Z4 from … gearbest I think though it might have been banggood or everbuying - check at all 3 places as they do change prices a lot. Aliexpress had it cheaper than this as well. You can also buy both of these from Amazon for a bit more money.

I bought a terrible cheap controller from ShineconVR (or something like this), I'd avoid that.

Just go outside and enjoy real reality

I've heard the resolution is awesome.

Slightly better screen door effect too.

        • And the render distance is pretty far too, however Hong Kong's distance is appalling.

I wouldn't recommend spending any money on it unless you have a Plus. If you have a smaller iPhone the resolution is so low you're basically looking at a bunch of obvious pixels. Even 1080p isn't great.

    • agree. 1080p isn't great either.

I think it's best to try Google Cardboard first - as a way of getting a feel for VR in general before buying a pricier one. They only cost less than $10 locally delivered from ebay. After I had a play with mine, I've chucked it in the back of the cupboard after a week or so.

  • I purchased Shinecon when I was using iPhone and found that the experience is not as great compared to the VR experience you can get on Samsung Galaxy with Oculus Gear VR. The resolution on the iPhone is too low (I was using iPhone 5s) and not worth the experience. It is not built with VR in mind as well, so I have to clip it off and clip it back on to navigate between content.

  • just got my VR Box this morning. tested a couple 360 panoramas with my iphone 6, all good.

VR Box bought off ebay at 18.96 delivered.

I have used Gear VR on Samsung S6 and to be honest the resolution on iphone 6 is way lower than S6. but if you really want a VR on iphone 6 i'd go with VR Box.
