Compact Digital Camera Advice (RX100 III or TZ110)

Hi All,

Just want some advice I've narrowed my choices between the RX100 III and TZ110.
I haven't bought a compact camera in 5 years+ so hoping this will last me for a while. Just general use and mostly travel snaps hence the compact.

Noticed the TZ110 is going to be on the eBay sale coming up at $899 with 15% discount and TRS I can theoretically get it for: ~$675.15
For the RX100 III cheapest I saw on staticice is $879 @Cambuy (hoping I can price match at JB) so with TRS: ~$791.10

I have done a lot of research I think the general consensus is the RX100 is a better camera overall (TZ110 does have its benefits zoom etc) but is it better to pay an extra $115.95 that will serve my needs?

The RX100 is a better camera overall, larger sensor, better low light performance, more features…etc. I used to own an RX100 IV and sold it soon after purchasing as I found that it was a bit flimsy and dinky. It's well constructed, but for a $1200-ish camera, I expected a lot better. These days, I use the Fuji X70 as my walkaround camera and couldn't be happier.

For travel snaps here and there, you'll probably want a zoom, but the Fuji's 28mm equivalent lens is perfect if you're looking for that smartphone angle of view, but much better quality.

To answer your question, I'd definitely go with the RX100 over the TZ110, but I'd also suggest you look at a couple of the other options as well. For a similar price, you can get an Olympus OM-D E-M10 II and a decent lens, or a Panasonic GX80…etc. both larger cameras, but much better. The Fuji X70 is also in your budget and is an excellent camera if you can live with a fixed lens.

Some people can't imagine not having a zoom, but I love my fuji x100.
If you are spending this sort of money, it suggests you are serious about taking pictures, worth considering the x70 I reckon..

      • I agree, I think zooms encourage people to take poorer photos. However, I think people often forget that the most used cameras (i.e. smartphones) are fixed lens.

        • Argh thanks for yor input guys. I'll have to do a bit more research on the x70 and have a play in store.

      • x100 user here; Haven't picked up my canon gear since.
