Free PidgeyCalc (Pokemon Go Lucky Egg Calculator) for Android and iOS

1220

Hi all. I made a lucky egg calculator for Pokemon Go a while ago and it's gotten quite a lot of coverage since. I've got a bunch of promo codes to give away for both Android and iOS (100ea) to the ad-free apps. If you have no idea what this is, you can access the site at http://www.pidgeycalc.com/ and there's an information section at the bottom.

Anyway just comment here with what version you want (Android/iOS) and I'll PM you a code.

I'm leaving + votes just to keep track of the people I've sent a code to. Apparently posting this offended a couple of people so much that they're going through the comments and negging people.

4:20pm: 50 Android 70 iOS left

4:50pm: 28 Android 60 iOS left

5:28pm: 0 Android 43 iOS left
I'm going to enable another 75 Android codes since they're going like hotcakes. I'll be using a site to distribute these codes so no need to comment if you're after an Android code. Stay tuned. iOS - continue to leave a comment.

ANDROID: Use this link (thanks Toothist)
http://www.play-code.xyz/ShowPromotion?promotionId=1472283365835
Alright enabling the last set of 75 Android codes (No more after this):

Please don't abuse!

iOS: Leave a comment saying that you want an iOS code. 15 left. (6:48pm aest)
If asked you to enable PMs in the comments but you still haven't gotten a code, send me a PM.

Edit: Make sure you enable PMs before leaving a comment.

How to redeem
Go to your respective app stores, look for the 'redeem' option, and put it in there. For iOS it's at the bottom of the home page. Not sure about Android.

If you could leave a rating or review of the app, that would be great. Thanks!

ALL GONE!
Thanks everyone. All codes are gone - 250 Android and 100 iOS. If you have a code and don't intend on using it feel free to give it to someone in the comments. If you missed out, the site is still free to use (albeit with ads) and I might do another promotion in the future if there's a major update to the app.

Maybe I'm a bit cynical but whether it is worth using a lucky egg is clearly relative to your level of disposable income and propensity to spend time on the game. Someone with a spare $500 to splash about might think two or three evos is enough to hatch a lucky egg for half an hour while someone f2p and not willing to spend anything might wait until they have amassed enough candies to evo 30-40 mons (hatching a mon every 20-30 seconds). Congrats for developing a product that clearly has a market (judging by the comments) but I don't see how the recommendation can be taken with anything more than a grain of salt and the fact it is 'calculated' lends (what is in the end is an arbitrary threshold level of XP gain) an air of objective legitimacy when really whether you should hatch varies between each player and there is no definitive point where hatching a lucky egg is worth it. For some that point will be one evo for others approx 60 (about the limit of hatches you can do in 1/2 hour giving 20-30 seconds between hatches for those with laggy phones).

    • Mathematically speaking there is. If the point of the lucky egg is to double your exp, then obviously the aim is to maximise exp gained for that short duration. So there would be a greater worth in using the lucky egg with evolving as many as you can.
The two kinds of people you make a point of, to me, sound like one that knows how to seek out the maximal value of something and one that does not.
So i think it's more relative to your intelligence then your 'disposable income'.

      • If you have unlimited income to spend on the game you can keep purchasing lucky eggs to spend every time you want to evo one mon so the calc is useless if you have no money to spend on the game and only the five or so free eggs at your disposal you may only be willing to hatch once you have enough candies to evolve over 100 mons. It depends what your own personal XP threshold is. How much double XP is worth hatching a lucky egg for? And thus there will be no set amount of XP that is optimal for all users to be gained from the lucky egg… So I fail to see the use of calculators such as this although it can help with those who do not find it easy to calculate simple amounts but then a simple calc would suffice, the app just seems a gussied up limited field calculator based on a conversion factor (candies to evolve converts to XP gain).

        • If we applied your principle to things outside pokemon - you're saying that there are people who would buy a bottle of water take a sip, throw it out and buy another to take another sip and so on? Clearly the optimal threshold would be to finish every drop of water in each and every bottle.

        • @86boy: Lucky Eggs are not analogous to bottles of water but if you wanted to create some kind of logical link between them Niantic gives people who progress through the game 5 bottles of water (or how many lucky eggs there are for level progressions) for some they will not want any more (as that requires purchase) others with disposable income will have no problem buying X, Y amounts more depending how much money they are willing to spend. For people owning 5, 20 or 50 bottles of water (lucky eggs) and if the temperature of the day can be linked to amount of evos one has before you drink a bottle then clearly those with less bottles of water would want to wait much longer (or have a much greater tolerance) because they realise the scarcity of the bottles of water (or eggs) in this case those with money who can buy bottles of water would open more bottles sooner (ie. hatch eggs for XP). There is no ideal temperature to open bottles of water at nor there is an ideal or threshold amount of XP one can be satisfied with attaining from a lucky egg it varies from person to person. Trying to prescribe a 'worth it' amount of XP for a lucky egg is like designating a minimum amount of hours for someone to have fun dancing. Clearly it varies from person to person someone may be satisfied with a few evos or an hour on the dancefloor while another would like to spend eight hours on the dancefloor and wouldn't go to an event (hatch the egg) unless they could get maximum utility from it (as they have limited time, parties they can attend). The example you gave with the one sip water bottle needs to be placed in context. It would be more akin to running a fun run like a road run some people may only have enough money for one bottle of water (or only have the f2p lucky eggs) so they will consciously wait until a stop 10km in while another would each 2km for a bottle of water. You can substitute kilometres traveled with evos. It may seem inefficient in your eyes that someone would waste a lucky egg on 3 or 4 evos but to some money is not as much of an object and as soon as they have candies they want to evo. There is no 'good amount of XP' to be hatched with a lucky egg it depends on person to person.

        • @juzz0:
You're completely missing the point. You are mixing up - 'value' and 'contentment'.
On a quantifiable level - if you are able to reap more EXP from a one lucky egg, you are creating more VALUE per egg.
There are people that are 'content' with receiving the EXP equal to 2-3 evo PER egg, however this person is undoubtedly receiving less VALUE.
A lucky egg would have a maximum threshold of EXP - based on the number of evos that can be done to within the 30 min period.
So it is feasible to say that the app will calculate quickly and simply - whether or not you will receive a HIGH VALUE use of the egg.

        • @86boy: But the deciding factor to hatch or not hatch (based on XP gain) varies on the user, the recommendation can clearly not be given as everyone has different contentment or XP thresholds they will be satisfied with. To try and shoehorn a direction or recommendation to hatch a lucky egg obviously depends on the variable number of eggs you have to hatch and as egg numbers are not held constant between users it can only set an arbitrary level which the designer of the app considers high value. For some users they won't find worth in hatching a lucky egg until they reach 60 evos (or whatever the max hatch is in half an hour) while others may be content with less XP. So repeating what I previously said it's only worth really is in the limited function it has as a candy - evos - XP converter limited field calculator but then anyone with a basic calculator or computer or just in their head can figure out how much XP they will gain from a lucky egg (just double the usual amount)

        • @juzz0:
Well to be honest - if you are content with less XP and 2-3 evos - you would most likely not even be aware of this app.
But the bottomline - it's not relative at all to your disposable income. It's relative to how much value you are willing to accept from an egg, and whether this correlates to your income or not, there's definitely no true causation.

        • @86boy: it is my conjecture there is a significant link between income and XP contentment levels derived from hatching a lucky egg but there is no way to test it beyond surveying hundreds of Pokemon Go users of different income levels who use the app on a regular basis. I think it is quite intuitive that there would be a causal connection but others may disagree. To me it is like the decision to go to a shopping centre for a few groceries (hatching an egg for a few evos)… For rich people they may not mind using petrol and time to travel there four days a week for groceries while some will want to achieve the maximum amount of use from the trip (the egg) only going if they know they will be coming back with a car laden full of goods (XP) as going to the shops costs petrol, time and money (parking). Clearly this app is popular so there is appears to be an audience for it but it is hard to delineate between those simply wanting an app here because it was free and how many would actually pay for the calc.

        • @juzz0:
My point is that you don't need to be rich to do 4 trips a week and you don't need to be poor to go to the shops once. It's a matter of personality and IMHO has nothing to do with income.
To entertain your idea - I think it would be the contrary anyway - rich people don't get rich by wasting money and time.

        • @86boy: considering there is a cost to go to the shops if you are relatively poor (do not have money to spend on eggs) you are going to go less frequently than someone who is rich. Pokemon Go with a lucky egg is better than playing without (for XP) likewise fresh groceries are preferable than waiting a month for a shopping trip. Obviously the example holds for country areas where going shopping requires travelling a distance incurring petrol and parking costs. If you have the time to spend you may as well, poor people will have less resources including time to spend, rich people are more prone to profligation. It is clear that if you have more eggs at your disposal (or have the ability to gain/purchase more eggs) you are going to wait less time accruing candies to evo than someone who is much more judicious with their egg use thus the flaw in any recommendation to hatch an egg based on a certain XP amount.

  • Hey, loving the app! (just left a positive rating+review)

One suggestion though is for a confirmation box to pop up when you tap the 'reset' button. Very paranoid that i might accidently tap it removing all values.

    • Thanks lyl! I've got heaps of my plate atm with uni but I'll look in to adding it when I get some time.

TY kheob, I received and redeemed both OS codes successfully during the promotion.
