Fair Trading goes public with Top 20 Companies for Complaints

Not surprised to see Harvey Norman and Air Asia in top 3 here, I possibly would have expected Masters on the list.

You'll probably find that it's not the build quality; which I would agree is generally good; it's more about their mercenary attitude to dealing with warranty issues when they are raised, their unrealistic EULAs, and dismissive attitude to ACL.

      • I have been using Apple gear for years, never had any issue in getting issues resolved, my current iMac was part of a recall with potential graphics card issues, I was not aware of the recall and found out 6 months after the issue was announced and my machine was well out of warranty, Apple replaced the card with no hassle or charge.

What in particular do you not like in the EULA? They look pretty standard to me across the industry.

      • never had an issue with the way they deal with warranties - as a matter of fact its one of the reasons why i buy apple.

i had 2 iphone 6+ touchscreens fail within a week -including the second that failed within 24 hours of the first.

at this point they swapped me over to an eqivelent sized 6S+ with no charge to me

What is probably most surprising is how FEW complaints there are. Therefore the top 20 list could be somewhat misleading… you'd need in the 100s to start having a higher degree of confidence that indeed one retailer is that much worse than the other.

To some extend the fact of a channel for complaint works… or most Australians just don;t bother to fill in a form.

From a Telco perspective, the pure mention of TIO usually helps you get a credible response in no time.

I am not associated with these functions (TIO/Fairtrading) but I am glad they are there… just a shame the car dealers are excluded in WA…. then you'd get your 100+ complaints easily!

Yeah if you're on top of any list with a number of 30 then the list doesn't have much credibility.

This is the money factor I guess. If TIO do get involved after the initial period, the company will pay out.

  • Glad to see Android Enjoyed on the list!

Interesting to see 4 out of the top 9 are real estarte.

  • I'm currently in a fight with Android Enjoyed right now.

  • I'd add Dept Fair Trading to the list myself. I pay for a certain type of building inspection. They have changed it to a fee for Internal and External. Doubling the fee. Yet they still come out and inspect both at the same time in less than 5 minutes. Complete Rip Off.

  • Amazing no builders? I bought a brand new property where the builder didn't finish the job properly.

Fair trading said that's the problem with off the plan. It didn't state it has to be tiled before settlement, its said builder has to fix after you settle.

Then there are other things too, like measurement can change by 5% for internal, but external can change to any number.

    No complains on that?

    • There's always next month. Maybe we should make it an Ozbargain sport to see if we can change it up :-)

      • The problem with naming builders is that they're all crooks, it would take forever to list them…you can't shame them either, they have hide like a rhino.

  • Is there one for victoria or are they all linked?

  • gotta say this list is somewhat specious without being normalised to some degree (customer base? # of transactions?)

is there a similar list for government organisations i wonder.
