  • Thanks OP

Cheers, got to use my rewards survey credit on something so I'll give this a go vs poweramp

  • +1

    I am still using PowerAmp.

    Tempted but I will refrain.

    • +1

Bare in mind you got to always connect net/mobile data to verify app license with PowerAmp and if you can't it will not work. Not good if you want to go abroad without data connection. PlayerPro seems a good second choice.

      • +7

I've never had to be on data or wifi to use poweramp once verified. Couldn't you find free WiFi overseas?

      • +2

I have wifi turned off on my tablet most of the time and I've never had a problem using Poweramp losing its licence.

      • That is not correct.

        • actually it is correct, as I experienced when travelling recently without roaming. poweramp will periodically attempt to check license, and revoke unlocked status if it cannot connect.

also, check the reviews on gplay store, others experience this issue.

        • @ozbjunkie: Didn't you ever connect to at least some free wifi if there was any?

        • @ozbjunkie:
He said 'always' which is not correct. I've had no issues being "offline" for extended periods and say using it on a plane is no problem.

        • @Shonky:

The issue presented itself over a 21 hour flight, taken many months after I started using poweranp. I read the developers notes, but that's not my experience, so I see this as an issue.

@BlazinPast: Where can I get that in Aus? I will happily disconnect my broadband after that unless you can walk searching for a shop or mall with free wifi.

        • @Gaggy:
What? His point was that many places around the world have free Wifi so if it really needed to be online to check the licence it wouldn't have been too hard to do so whilst travelling.

      • poweramp only periodically connect to verify license. you don't need network connection all the time to run it.

  • For $10 without discount - wonder if it is worth that much.

Am using Poweramp as well but couldn't resist for $0.20.

I can't get any music app that doesn't support album artist tags. I can recommend GoneMad Music Player over this by a longshot.

    • Try Poweramp v3 Beta, it supports album artist and the sound quality (HiRes audio) is way better than v2.

Interesting. I might give it a go. I still don't think it will be able to beat the large customisability and quality of GMMP though. The developer is awesome and always responds within a day on his G+ or reddit and actively maintains his app. I think it is much more worth supporting him than the Poweramp team who now fail to communicate well and actively maintain the main version of their app. Poweramp used to be the best back in the day but has slowly fallen behind.

        • I've had a problem for about 11 months now where GMMP won't play some of my mp3s. I've been using VLC Player recently to play those songs … not known where to get support for GMMP 'til now (I'm in my 60's so still learning about social appps 😀 ). So thanks! I'm still gonna buy Player Pro as well since it's only a coupla bob during this special.

        • @trev: No worries! Just in case you needed them, the links for these communities are at the GMMP contact page: https://gonemadmusicplayer.blogspot.com.au/p/contact.html

Also, as a quick suggestion to try and fix your problem, try going to Settings>Audio>Playback and tick (or untick) "Enable Custom AudioEngine" and see if that makes any positive difference. If not switch it back to the previous setting. Maybe also try going back to Settings>Scanner and then Delete the database and scan for music again.

    • Rocket Player does as well. It supports all sorts of tags, playlists, ratings, skins, gapless playback, flac etc + looks fabulous - highly recommended

  • No hi-res support?

  • I really want a player that can bookmark individual albums as I am listening to them. I know there are players that can have a single bookmark but I want one that allows multiple bookmarks so that I can have several albums at any stage I like and return to them where I left off whenever I want to.

There is something called Music Folder Player that has this sort of functionality but it isn't as pretty or in-depth as the likes og GMMP, Poweramp or PlayerPro.

Anyone know of a good music player that can do the above?

    Cheers

  • I just want something that streams to my AirPlay speaker without issue.

    • Lol

Look for anything with an i in front of it then, iTunes, iPhone, Ipad etc.

  • I'm using the Google music player and volume is a lot better. Ill uninstall and get my 20cents back!!

    • I found volume low as well, but the Equalizer preamp took care of that.

whats the difference between poweramp and PlayerPro Music Player? which is better?

    • +1

For the average user, both players are superb apps for android. It really does boils down to user preference and the minor features available on the players.

i.e. i've always used poweramp, and tried playerpro a while back, but went back to poweramp as it had an option for me to alter the audio balance within the app itself.

    • +2

A few minor things, but some major ones are PowerAMP supports .cue files, player pro doesnt. PlayerPro reads/writes ratings tags for some external players but Poweramp doesnt.

    • +1

Well they both play your music so it's just up to you which one you prefer the look of.

    • Anyone used either of these and Rocket Player Pro? Wondering if there are any major differences between them (bar Rocket looking much nicer :) )

  • Thank you for the input everyone! Very helpful!

  • Not 98% off :( , US$4.24

    • US$? this is for the Australian Store.

  • This is the music app I prefer, highly recommended

  • Best music app, bargain!

  • I find poweramp still has the problem of random starting by itself..so might be worth trying this one..

    • You can disable it in the settings
