Kudos to the rep for all the follow up answers and support, nice work!

Bought 4 last round. Ended up upgrading my light fittings to give the bulbs more impact.

Interested to see what google's new alexa-type device adds to integration.

    • Cheers. I love the OzBargain community so is a pleasure to respond.

Lots of new stuff coming out in the back half of the year with partner integrations. Bulbs will only keep getting better!

  • Thanks OP, just purchased another two which makes six for the main living areas of my family home.

I'm interested in creating a 'theme' which is the main reason for purchasing more. For about double of what I paid for the stronger Phillips LED globes the added functions makes it a viable purchase at this price.

Seems though my android app keeps wanting to update them and the time frame is hugely annoying, I'm not sure which ones are updated and which ones aren't.
Will have to try from the PC now that I've downloaded the Windows 10 app, fingers crossed as its the only thing that annoys me about the globes.
Ohh yeah apart from the fact that the 'Music Visualiser" function doesn't always want to turn off!

Hoping the above may be resolved with the required firmware update, if not I'll get in touch with support to see if they can assist..

    • +1

Hmmm, yep try updating via the desktop updater. http://www.lifx.com/pages/updates

You can also send a diagnostic report via the app to the [email protected] team and they will see what bulb may be failing to update.

Music Vis can now work in the background so the app doesn't need to be on anymore. This just changed so maybe it is staying on correctly :)

Taber and the support crew will help get it sorted. They are awesome.

  • Hi OP, I have ordered a bulb but have just realised that my light fitting has a strange socket and will not fit - can I cancel the order for a refund? Have also emailed [email protected] but trying to catch someone before it is shipped out.

    Thanks
    LIFX23317

    • Sorry we didn't catch your change in time. Looks like Matt replied to you. You can also exchange them in person if needed to the same address provided if that works for you. Jus let Matt know via email.

  • If my room has LED down lights, can I use these bulbs with them or do I need some sort of converter/adapter? Thanks.

Otherwise what size lamp would I need for this instead?
Sorry if it's been asked already

    • These are more light a traditional light bulb so screw into table lamps, floor lamps and pendant lights etc…

Check your current ones if you have an. They need to be either E27 screw or B22 bayonet (pin) style bulbs. Be careful with smaller lamps that use the tiny globes and IKEA as they often have the smaller E14 screw bulbs.

  • Has anyone gone down the Pop route?

    Just curious is all

    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/pop-home-switch#sectio…

    • Still only selling in US at the moment. We have tested them out though and they are awesome!

      • Are you able to confirm whether the Logitech Pop hub is 240V compatible? i.e. can it be used with a simple plug adapter, or does it require a step up transformer? Thanks!

        • Sorry not 100% sure. They have only released them in the US so far. I'll try and find out for you.

        • Just confirmed with one of our team who tested them out. They will work here, you'll just need an adaptor for the plug.

        • +1

@kavalier27: Thanks for making the effort to find out. That's the answer I was hoping for too! Cheers!

    Just got shipping notification!

  • Ordered 3, cant wait to have a play :D

    • Nice one ;p

  • Hi OP,

I'm an idiot and forgot to hit the 'Apply' button when typing in the code. Already emailed both [email protected] and [email protected], but figured I'd try here also (sorry for the spam, if anything).

Any chance this can be amended?

    • All good the team will look after it for you and refund the discount for you.

Received the bulb today, excellent colors, heaviest bulb i had ever held

    • ;p so much tech packed in.

  • +1

I'm a little late to the party but just ordered a bulb to use in my bedroom. Great info and support on the thread btw!

    • Enjoy switching the lights off from the comfort off bed. Lazy? No way. :)

      • I've got a mini home theatre in my bedroom, so I was going to set up some bias lighting at a colour temperature of 6500K. Any tips :-)

        • Super easy. The Whites wheel shows you the colour temp so you can set it exactly to 6500K via the App.

  • HI rep,
Thanks for the deal. I bought two but I'm not too sure if the units I got are brand new.

One of the box has been taped on the two sides over another layer of tape.
The instruction manual has a food(like) stain mark in one of the inside pages.

You replied to another poster that you don't see refurb units?
    Could you please clarify?
    Thanks.

    • The adhesive they use to attach the booklet to the side of the cardboard box is a brown circle, that is probably the mark you're referring to.

  • Mine arrived today. I'm astonished at the number of bugs and glitches I've experienced already.

    • It took six attempts before the Android app would connect to the bulb when setting it up.
    • The desktop firmware updater hung half-way, forcing a restart.
    • Google Now integration is atrocious. Telling Google to "turn my lights off" often sends a "lights on" command instead. Asking it to "dim my light" sometimes makes it brighter.
    • The Windows 10 app refuses to let me control the bulb at all: it can't find it, despite being on the same Wi-Fi network and logged in to the same LIFX account.

This is an amateurish, unreliable, frustrating product.

    • +1

whats your android version? Im on marshmallow and both bulbs I got connected right away actually not even needing all the steps covered in the instructions.
hope you have better luck with them, I haven't had any problems so far, set up some schedules with no hiccups

    • +1

You're buying a "first generation" product at a massive discount, roughly the same price as the Chinese alternatives (and I doubt you've experienced how badly they work).

PS. The two bulbs I purchased worked perfectly (iOS).

  • Got mine today and I'd recommend going straight to an ipad to save yourself some grief. Once you've entered the wifi password on the bulb's behalf then you'll be ok.

Macos wifi saw the devices and connected but the app wouldn't see them. Windows 10 lumia phone same. Give them a miss until set up. Haven't done the firmware updates yet.

    • The firmware updates fix issues with other devices like that (if/when you need to reset the bulbs).

      • Yes finished the updates now and up and running :) Can be frustrating initially to get access to do the updating.

  • How do I get it to sync with my music? The music visualiser setting on the lifx does nothing but change to various random colours? Help?

    • +1

The (iOS) app prompts for access to your microphone, so check it has that permission.

Put the device (suggest: spare phone/tablet) you wish to 'listen' near your speakers. "Random" colours are expected based on the music.

      • How about for Android device?

        • Android usually bulks permissions when you first install - you agree to allowing it access to everything.

Unless you have additional security software or a custom ROM installed. In which case, refer to it.

  • I received my order yesterday but the box had only 1 single bulb. I ordered 6 and was charged for 6. What happened here?? Do they split shipping?

  • I burned my fingers trying to reset the bulb.

  • Order 2 bulbs.

Shipping: 2 days from Sydney to Sydney. Can't complain, though, cause it was free shipping. There wasn't enough bubble-wrap, the bulbs were sliding around.

Installation: Have a Unifi network and was not able to connect it to my SSID. I don't know if it is the SSID name or the key (around 30 digits, special characters, lower- and upper-case, numbers). Was able to connect them to a second (shorter) SSID with a shorter key. Tried to connect them to the main SSID again after the update of the bulbs, no luck. Read that the bulbs seem to have problems with Unifi networks.

Firmware update: What a pain. Tried with the Windows app several times, stuck at 99.9%. Eventually, was able to do it with the Android app after a few tries.

Functionality/App usability: Pretty good. Everything works as intended. I like it very much.

Conclusion: Would I buy again? (profanity) yes! The bulbs are bloody fantastic and I will definitely order more when needed.

    • Yeah 4/5ths of the bubble pack was popped in mine, but the product package itself will keep the product intact. There's no glass anyway.

      • Yeah, the product package itself is pretty good.

  • Managed to pull the plastic cap off thanks to a standard flathead screwdriver + https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/LIFX+Color+1000+Teardown/647…

Now fits very snuggly in (Mercator) Penta fittings.

Little concerned about the heat output, so I'll keep the brightness low as there's less than <1cm clearance from the glass. Some extra diffusing wouldn't hurt either. Wonder if baking paper would stand up to the heat.

Totally voided the warranty on that globe I guess. ;) Worth it to see the LED combination for how 'warm' white works though!

    • Don't worry too much about the heat output. The hot areas are where the heat-sink is behind so it is supposed to be very hot. As long as there is a little bit of airflow I reckon you should be fine.
I think I read somewhere that there are over 30 LEDs in the lamp which produce quite a bit of heat.

Have one of these bad boys (Colour 1000) in my room which I to wake up, need to find a floor lamp to fit the bulkier design. I remember when this was just a small team working out of Richmond - crazy.

    • Thanks for the kind words. The team loves the support!

  • +1

Received my bulb today. Very happy with the responsiveness, brightness, and colour. Have just ordered another 2 to further evaluate throughout the house.

Connected the bulb without issue via the android app to my home network (UAP-AC-Lite) but had similar issues to others when trying to update the firmware from my phone. Also tried the Windows 'app' without success.

As mentioned by others, once the bulb is on your network, I suggest using the Windows based updater (this is separate to the windows store app) available at http://www.lifx.com/pages/updates. It connected to my bulb and updated within 2 minutes.

    • Nicely done. Team is working hard to make on boarding and updating much more streamlined and reliable. Takes some decent troubleshooting sometimes as you encountered.

  • +1

I like the way it manages multiple bulbs in a theme by selecting colours and intensity for each bulb. If you don't like the combination it chooses select it again for a new arrangement.

  • +1

Great bought 2, and ill buy another 2 more :D

Works fine. Wish they were more powerful.

Love the settings, was a bit fiddly to setup, but once going totally awesome!

    • More powerful as in brightness?

  • +1

Received mine today. Love them. No issues using on Windows 10. Firmware updated fine using the dedicated app.

  • Really happy with the two I purchased, so much so that I've just purchased two more!

    • Nice to hear!! :)

Ordered one to see what all the fuss is about. It arrived yesterday. The firmware update was an absolute pain! It kept freezing at 99.9% After about 3 tries, I gave up and left it for an hour or so. Tried it again after leaving it for an hour and the update worked and now the bulb is working perfectly. Tempted to order a second one now! Actually quite impressed with it. Just be aware that you need patience for the update process. Once you get through that, it's an incredibly convenient product! Now looking forward to trying it out with IFTTT.

    • +1

I purchased 5 and updated one at a time using PC, Windows 8.1. Two updated straight away, the other 3 kept freezing at 99.9%. Followed the instructions from LIFX but still took multiple tries. I tried one with no success three times, decided to leave to next day. Was going to contact support but gave it one more go, bingo, 100%. The secret seems to be to restart everything and leave plenty of time between tries. Painful? Yes, but well worth it, they are working perfectly and I've ordered another one.

      • on/off and persistence seem to be the trick. this is the biggest and longest update as it is the very first firmware that was made. lot's of lessons learned since then.

        • Why are you not delivering with latest firmware?

        • @vivmak: these are the original LIFX bulbs so were manufactured some time ago hence the discount. we cant update firmware unless we open, onboard and repackage every bulb. i wish we could.

  • I am wondering HomeKit support will available for these bulbs ? I bought some and now reading about home kit it might not be available for these bulbs ?

    • Currently not available and will likely require additional hardware to work on these bulbs.

  • I purchased this on last Thursday and still not dispatch.
This is my second purchased, the first purchased was dispatch the next day.

    • that's odd. do you have a order number i can check for you?

  • I got mine this morning. I tried updating using the Windows app, but it got stuck at 13.75%. So I cancelled, and turned the light off and waited before turning it on again and resuming updating.

After resuming updating, I've gotten stuck at 99.99%. I heard the Windows app was more reliable, but am going to try the Android app tonight after work.

Did anyone successfully update their firmware so far? How did you do it?

EDIT: I can see user 'liquid metal' had success with Android after failing with Windows multiple times after scrolling up

Also the log on the updater said it was currently 1.5 and going to 1.9, but I thought 2.0 was out with cloud functionality. It's a little bit frustrating that they do not list the version number against the changelog online.

I was thinking of sticking on 1.5, the bulb was working at the start. Now the app does not see them, I think I will have to complete the update before I can re-connect them…

    • HI Voe, updating firmware can be problematic for some people due to routers or bulbs being on older 1.1 firmware. If you are still having issues, please email [email protected] and the crew will help you out and replace/upgrade if needed.

      • +1

        Hi Kavalier27,

Managed to complete it successfully yesterday by doing it one at a time using the Windows app. I think one of the bulbs was 1.1 and the other was 1.5 and this might have caused the issue in trying to update it together at the same time. Happy now. Thanks.

        • Great to hear!

  • Two questions :

    1. For in cieling recessed lighting what type of fitting should i buy?

    2. I have hanging lights bought at Masters and they have smaller screw type holder, how do i convert those to the sizes available for original Lifx bulbs?

    • Hi Vivmak,

      1. Depends on the width and depth of the recess. I have Originals in mine and they work ok. You can check the dimensions here: http://www.lifx.com/pages/the-original-info-sheet

      2. You can get adapters on eBay but wouldn't recommend it. It committed to having LIFX in them, I'd get a sparky to swap the fitting to E27.

      • There is a specific in cieling fitting and trying to finds its cide starts with BR

        • Ah yes, we do have a BR30 shape in the US but it is not available in Australia just yet. You can buy them and import them though: http://www.lifx.com/products/color-1000-br30

The team will need to charge shipping though as they ship from the US.

  • Finally arrived today on the Auspost Snail Express.
Pretty poor packing job on the part of your fulfilment centre though, packed in the box along with Sealed Air cushioning… with no air in it. Bulbs flying around inside, luckily they're pretty solid, appear to have come out unscathed..

    • Exactly the same for me.

      • Thanks for the feedback. The good news is the retail packaging is rated to protect the bulb at a fall so the bulbs will be ok. Will follow up on the packaging though.

  • Arrived today and was super excited.

Loaded up the app on iOS, created an account (which is annoying to have to do inside the app) and then jumped out to connect to the lifx wifi. All good! Changed the colours around and saw a firmware update.

Started the update and watched some YouTube as the lifx updated. The update completed and the bulb rebooted.

Unfortunately, no bulb listed in the app anymore and not in Wifi network list. Tried restarting my phone, power cycling the lifx to no avail.

Performed a hardware reset and an advanced hardware reset - https://support.lifx.com/hc/en-us/articles/202442544-My-Bulb….

No lifx bulb listed in my Wifi network list anymore. I've tried a couple of phones and from my PC.

    Time to contact support :-(

    • oh no. might have bricked itself. support will help you out.

      • +1

I just wanted to mention, support has been outstanding. My ticket has been closed.

  • Gotta say, as unnecessary as they are on the whole (haha), I totally enjoy these bulbs. Had heaps of fun playing around with different settings and modes like Flicker/Strobe/Etc

    • By unnecessary you do mean awesome ;p

  • Accidentally ordered the Edison screw instead of the Bayonet Cap, any way I can change the order?

    Order ID: #LIFX24139

    • looks like you got it sorted?

  • Hi OP, I can't seem to detect one bulb. Done a hard reset as stated in LIFX support numerous times and the bulb is still not visible in the list of WiFi networks. Looks like it's faulty. My other 2 bulbs work fine.

    • +2

i had the same thing with one of my four bulbs in most recent order - email [email protected] - they sorted it all out for me within 24 hr

    • +1

That can happen :( As mentioned by bdl shoot [email protected] an email and we will sort it out

      • +1

Thanks, I have contacted LIFX support.

  • Does anyone have an issue in ITTT where the "Which lights?" drop down menu doesn't display any bulbs? Everything else works great running android marshmallow, did the dedicated windows update and worked first time

  • Well so far have been working a treat. The kids love playing with them (using as main light in their room), working well as a night light too. Both got stuck at 99.99% during update but resumed and completed successfully on second attempt (was using PC updater method, one at a time).

One thing that surprised me is how warm they get when the LEDs are off. Wonder if the new models are the same.

Also, anyone know if its possible to get more control via Google Now, such as specifying a particular light?

    • Yes i agree, it does get warm when it is off.

  • Order #LIFX24323
Can you confirm the delivery instructions were received as a part of the order?
Nothing is noted about special delivery instructions upon the order and desire to be prudent regarding this, to ensure there's no issues :)

I'm sceptical as to the value of these, yet you've got to be in it, to win it hey.
    See how I go :)

  • Any news on when this deal will expire? :O
