Just throwing it out there, the missus has decided that we need a blender so hoping for some guidance/recommendations/bargains
Ideally sub $200
Needs to blend ice
Needs to handle hot liquids
Typical uses vegie/fruit smoothies, cold/hot sauces, cocktails
Blender not really a single serve (nutribullet)
Was looking at the breville kenetix though reviews not so good (motor dies)

The Kogan 1400W Vitablast is pretty good bang for buck used to be cheaper than it currently is - i believe i picked it up for about $90 before christmas.
Way more expensive, but a thermomix is amazing, basically a variable speed blender that heats and steams. You'll never go back to a regular blender.
If you don't want to spend that much. Just buy from somewhere local (Target, Big W) and keep the receipt so you can return it. If you crush ice in blenders it kills them (I've killed heaps in my day). Easier if you have the receipt and can easily swap it over when it dies.

I bet user error for at least 90% of those allegations. - Read the instructions. For example, blending hot liquid using turbo or fast speed is asking for trouble. Gradually build up the speed if you require a fast blend.
I've had mine for 3 years, great universal tool. would recommend :)
