Will Census Fine me?

I completed my census from my previous house hold since I still lived with my folks. Recently I moved into a new apartment since it was closer to work. In the last few days ago, a Census officer left a notice card under my door step, mentioning that it's been a 2nd attempt to claim the form which I already have done before moving to this place.

I believe this notice was for the previous tenant or for the landlord of this place. Should I just Ignore the card and will I get fined?

    http://help.census.abs.gov.au/help/popquestions literally. the. first. question.

    • Why don't ABS just print that on the notice?

Its just easier to depend on OzBargain, than your fellow government.

The website address for help is printed on the census. A 5 second google is all that was needed.

        • I was poking fun at ABS. i.e. Why is there an "attempt to claim the form" if Q/A exists on their website?

  • What date did you do it and what date did you move?

  • +7

Of course - did you ask the Census for permission to move?

    Back to being serious.

You filled in the Census where you were on the night.

It has nothing to do where you live, again it was where you were on census night

Simply contact the census let them know and save the taxpayers some money so the census taker doesnt have to visit you again. There will be contact details on the card left.

    • Suggest you also leave a note for the census taker if you don't contact them directly.
They are the ones supposed to collect the information for that household so they will need to report to their supervisor why they can't.

They will only fine you if you work for IBM. But only if they can find you in the first instance. which they cant because they havent collected a lot of data….

  • Should I just Ingore the card and will I get finned?

yes and no. they won't fine you.

  • They may fine you, but you won't be able to pay that fine, since their online payment portal won't work whenever you try…

    ABS, keepin' it real.

  • I really don't think they will dare fining anyone after their miserable and appalling performance.
They will be keen for everyone to forget the Census asap.

  • Should I just Ignore the card and will I get fined?

No, don't just ignore the card. Contact the number on the card or contact Census on 1300 214 531.
Let them know that the property was unoccupied on the night of the Census.

    • No, don't just ignore the card.

is the card addressed to op in name? if no, then ignore it.

Hard to fine a house isn't it?

  • If you've recieved the second card they have already fined you! You should have rang them when then left the first card! They will be fining you parents as well

what? more people win the lotto than get fined by the abs. if you get a fine, then you should consider yourself lucky and buy a lotto ticket.

      • yerr well, everyone who bought a lotto ticket will be getting fines too!

        • yerr well, everyone who bought a lotto ticket will be getting fines too!

          only if their unlucky. ;)

        • @whooah1979: an' if you keep winkin' at me the'll bloody-well fine you too whoa! lol

  • This Census is the most statistically useless survey in the history of the country. I am astounded that they have not fired the head of the ABS because of this debacle.

    • That is not how it works in government…when you stuff up you get promoted!!!

  • Nope, just heard it on the radio

  • Leave a note outside for the next time they come round, saying you were not at that address on census night and that you did the census at the other place you were at. ( no need to tell them the other address on the note. )

  • I hadn't filled mine out yet and I have received a second letter with a penned asterisk on it. It had another code, thinking about trolling the ABS by filling in a second form.
