Cheapest I have seen for this great mid-spec phone. Particularly when it is over half the price of the Nexus 5x

Being 16gb this phone won't suit everyones needs. Especially those that use a lot of apps and/or media. With the OS installed it leaves just over 12gb in free space.

Like all Chinese phones some bands will be missing. So be sure to check this against your network provider.

There is an ever so slightly cheaper seller but their feedback is not higher enough to meet OzBargains posting rules

Might want to consider grabbing a spare cable or two if don't have any existing Type-C cables

A couple (or more) of these have blown up (battery fault) laying idly on the bed or when people are using them. Not a massive issue, but it's worth considering.

    • Any injuries yet?

      • Nope, but apparently the Indian guy the the phone idle on the bed had the phone next to his head while sleeping and woke up to hissing… scary.

Sorry but that sounds more like a Cobra than a Xiaomi.

They really have taken copying Apple to a new level. Obviously a concern but also a good reminder not to keep phones plugged in once charged (which can be difficult when most charge their phones over night) and to always use genuine or quality chargers. Not saying those owners didn't as I had not previously heard of the issue.

Yeah they have taken copying to a new level. It is nice to see some greatly priced phones that have okay build quality for the price, though. You are absolutely right about not keeping phones plugged in. Reduces their capacity over time too. I don't think it's a massive issue but personally I wouldn't be taking the risk. The Redmi Note 3 just seems like it's better quality compared to this phone. Almost as if they tried to stuff as much high-end stuff into the Mi4c as they could with the low budget and sacrificed engineering/quality.

        • one of the redmi note 3 models now has band 28, so not sure why people still buying 4G phone with no band 28.

the issue with lithium batteries is. or new and people with radio controlled models who have lots of batteries ( we have 25) tend to be more careful than people who might just have lithium batteries in a phone and tablet . hobby shops have sold sold fireproof charging bags for a long time.

I have my phone charger in the bathroom, if charger or phone blow up its not a big deal compared to my kids bedroom or the floor. Need a few house fires like from hover boards to raise public awareness.

        • @garage sale: The band 28 model is still in pre-sale. Not available until the end of the month.

Also, My last 2 phones have not had band 28 (Lenovo K3 note, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime), and I haven't noticed any reception or internet speed issues since owning them. Maybe it's more noticeable on the East coast though?

        • band 28 gives you better indoor coverage which is handy inside offices, also does channel aggregation if you have band 28, so you can hit very high speeds on 4G.

Price n specs r good, lack of SD card puts the deal off for me.

    • considering how cheap flash memory is these days 32GB should add minimal cost.

      • +2

true but the phone doesn't support expandable storage

        • @Marco1993, thanks for filling the void. I should have said 'lack of SD card* slot'.

  • For those that want expandable storage and an even bigger battery the same store has the Xiaomi 3S for the same price - Xiaomi 3S Just choose Gold and sealed standard.

    • The 3s uses a considerably slower SoC (however lower resolution screen means performance is still good), no type c and is only 720p screen. Just things that anyone looking at the 3s over this one might want to consider. The upside to the 3s is the battery life is way better, metal build (if you prefer it) and fingerprint sensor. Also for a little extra you can get the 3gb/32gb redmi 3s.

It's unbelievable what you can get for under $150 nowadays. If you can live with 16gb phone, then this could be great for people on a budget. Certainly a lot better than most alternatives this side of $200.

      • Yeah I probably should have mentioned some of the notable differences, so cheers for that. For me the 3S is a significantly better purchase for the money because I value battery life and expandable storage above other features.
You're truly spoilt for choice for <$200 these days though!
