Good laptop this one. I have it.

Would recommend upgrading the stock wireless card. Doesn't cost much but makes a big difference.

    • does this have one of those "IBM" keyboards - where the buttons are smaller / missing windows keys?

      • +2

No. ThinkPad moved to 6-rows chiclet keyboard back in the T430 days (~3-4 years ago). The keys are slightly curved though with good response, and I found them better than many other chiclet keyboards. Still no comparison to the good ol' day 7-row IBM keyboard though.

Also, add in the SSD on offer or upgrade yourself and keep the 1TB drive for external storage. I got this with only the 1TB HDD and in daily use, it feels much slower than it is.

HDDs in laptops like this are like driving a car along a major road at 80, but everything has to slow to a virtual halt through the 40 kph school zones along the journey.

SSDs are like HDDs, except theres no school zones and the road is a no speed limit autobahn. There are occasional slowdowns to 100 kph to avoid slower drivers, but you're back up to speed as soon as you pass.

Man I got greedy, didn't jump on the last deal with extra ram and ssd.

  • +4

Yea, last deal was heaps heaps better. Can't ever think about paying this price when they can clearly go much cheaper, or provide much more.

    • +1

what was the last deal? same laptop ?

    • But wasn't that was a pricing error? You reckon it would appear again this time as a deal?

      • +1

As brighter said there was the same specs for $100 less. Also, the "price error" deal, wasn't pointed out as an error by Lenovo, and the laptops was shipped, so it shows it's still profitable for them to sell it with extra ram, plus ssd, plus etc, or else they can cancel the orders due t price error.

So I'm not so sure it is an error in pricing.

Either way, it's been better, in either price or specs. As TA said in the deal description.

        • Yeah, of course, you make a point. But in a market where buying a laptop isn't necessarily an impulse purchase I feel I'm being too much of a TA to wait another couple of months for something to pop up only to save $100 or so. Probably not worth the upgrade to 16GB RAM right? That's only suited for people doing rendering and programming etc.?

        • @Hitman3095:

Well yea, if you don't want to risk waiting a unknown time, u should consider this. If you're willing to wait, it might get better, if nothing else technology will improve and better value should come.

        • It was definitely a pricing error, as you could literally add every upgrade and it didn't update the price, even though it said next to the upgrades that there was additional cost.

        • @MrFunSocks:

That's true, but to me, and my opinion only, if it was a true price error, they would have reneged on the sale and returned the money.

So I think, yes it was an error, but one they were happy enough to make. Don't forget, Lenovo has made price errors in the past and returned the money. So obviously this "error" wasn't too bad.

        • @cloudy: So ended up buying it, will get a SSD as well :) After 6 years this better be worth the wait!

  • I bought it in the last round and whilst it is a very capable laptop for the price, I have found the placement of the charger lead awkward and charge cable is very short.

  • Bought the ThinkPad P70 - 16GB Memory with 4K screen. 28% discount through cashrewards. Yieww!

  • +1

I bought one of these on an earlier deal. Find it pretty ordinary TBH. always having driver problems have tried contacting Lenovo several times but never get a response other than 'thanks for your email you'll be contacted in 48hours' which never happens. Whilst they always attract a lot of up votes I couldn't recommend it myself.

  • Yoga 460 is a good price. I picked one up for $1439 for the i7 + 2gb graphics.

It's not the cheapest it has ever been, but the need for an upgrade only just arose!

  • Is cashback calculated on the full price?

    • Of course not.

    • Cash back on the cash parted from your hand.

      • I'm looking at some transactions on cashrewards and I have been paid based on the full price. Must be something to do with ebay discounts?

        • +1

eBay discounts tend to be invoiced at the full price. But when u buy direct from store that won't occur

  • For those thinking of going with the SSD upgrade, choosing it extends delivery time to 4 week - called and apparently there's a worldwide shortage of SSDs. I cancelled my order and am thinking of just ordering without these SSD.

    • always cheaper to get your own ssd

      • I'd rather pay $20-30 extra and have someone else install it for me! The upgrade was $150 for a 256GB SSD.

  • I bought a similar spec Dell inspiron late 2012 and am surprised how little technology has improved in this price segment over a 4 year period. Just broke my Dell last week and this Lenovo looks literally likeit would be a replacement rather than an 'upgrade'. Still 5400rpm hdd and video card has barely barely improved.Still struggles on anything past 2012 gaming. i7 6th gen is probably more efficient than my 2nd gen though, and you get 1080p instead of 720p.

    • Technology moved a lot, but more profit is made on older cheaper to produce hardware.

  • How about the performance of the AMD Radeon R7 M360 2GB? How much the scores in 3DMARK11?
