$700 Dyson hair dryer....goes against all my ozbargain ethics....but how to get it cheaper?

Need to buy 2 of these things for presents, so $1400 in total.

Only 3 shops locally that stock it: Myer, David Jones and the Dyson shop. Would like to buy local for the warranty

What's the cheapest way I could purchase them Gift voucher deals? Amex?

Couldn't find any codes out there.

  • ebay 20% + cashrewards. i used this for dc54 animal pro for around $630.
    i can justify that cost for a good vacuum, not a hair dryer…

    • The one the OP wants (local warranty) isn't on eBay

      • yeah right just noticed that.
        maybe masters and tgg will have them later?

    Who is it for? Rapunzel? That would be the only justification for spending $700 on a hair dryer!

      That might be a bit insensitive… what if his girlfriend is a Yeti? :)

      • +1

        If it's big foot… I'd like to learn if it's the camera that's blurry or if his girlfriend just looks blurry in real life.

  • TBH, I will wait for the 2nd gen.

    • -2

      and I will wait for one that comes with a selfie camera, for you know, taking a selfie while you're drying your hair.. ^_^

  • I saw these on (non-subtle) product placement on The Bachelor. Had no idea they are $700. That's absolute madness.

    How many Amex do you have?
    Stock up on gift cards during the Amex vogue event, spend $50 get $20 back.

    David Jones gift cards are 10% off from the Entertainment Book for the balance?

  • Don't have an AMEX yet - was considering it if it's worth for the purchase. Will check out the entertainment book though.

    • Amex is great for the Statement Credits that they have been offering.
      You probably wouldn't make it for the current AMEX/Vogue offer (if you applied now, etc)… but if it suits your situation, I would recommend it.

      Current AMEX Statement Offers that I find / found useful:
      * Vogue - Spend $50 get $20 back.
      * Woolworths - Spend $30 get $10 back.
      * HCF - Spend 3x get $100 back.
      * Amex Travel Online - spend $200, get $50 back.

      Shop Small - campaign usually runs in November each year… this has been really good. (So apply for your card by early October, and get access to this campaign!) The details have varied each time, but it is along the lines of spend $20, get $10 back, up to 10 times at different merchants.

      Others, not so useful:
      * Samsung Pay - Spend 3x $5 with Samsung Pay and get $15 back (I don't have a Samsung phone).
      * Wine offers - Cracka Wines - spend $99 get $20 back, Winestar, spend $150, get $50 back.

      I've got the Qantas Discovery - which earns Qantas points and no annual fee.
      Other no annual fee cards - Velocity Escape (earns Virgin Velocity points) and Essentials (earns Amex's Membership Rewards points).

  • $700 for a hair dryer ? you must have thick hair then :)

  • I think if you have entertainment book, you can buy David Jones voucher at 10% off? Then you go overseas, collect another 10%.

    That is about as cheap as it gets if you are looking to buy soon.

    Unless MYER is running off another promotion like $15 off for every $50 or something like that.

    Ozbargain spirits or not, once the wife locked her eyes down for something, including gift selections. LOL …….. we just have to play along and try to find the cheapest one possibly.

    Cheers

    seriusly, how is this hair dryer worth $700? Does it make coffe and vacuum the floor after…

  • +2

    Save your money and go for a Parlux.

  • Found this in the entertainment book for 25% at Myer (up to $100 off) - can anyone confirm if it's just for women's wear.

    • Looks like your entertainment search is for store locators of www.review-australia.com. Do they even sell dyson hair dryer? Did a search on their site for 'dyson' and there were no results.

  • $700 is alot of trips to the hairdresser. she'd probably prefer that instead.

    • +3

      In my experience, $700 is not that many trips to the hairdresser for a lady.

      • +1

        ^ exactly lol

    • Just 2 trips for a lady.

  • become friends with someone who sells them, dyson often sell direct to staff @ 50% off if they area salesperson who directly sells them (i.e. cant be the TV guy in Harvey Norman but can be the woman who sells small appliances etc - the reps know who they are and they arrange a discount code for them to buy online)

  • $700 is indeed madness. I have enough points to get this for free really. I am still thinking about it!

  • Has anyone actually bought one of these yet?

    • No, but they dropped the price by $100

      • +1

        Thanks, so it's $600 now? Still very expensive for a hair dryer.

        • Yeah. I heard Parlux is better anyway?

          My hairdryer is some $20 Remington one

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

          I love my Parlux, I've had it for almost 10 years and it's still as strong as ever knock on wood. Before that my hairdryers usually died after the warranty period.
